Kwik Fit - Tracking for life offer?
Anyone know if Kwik Fit still do this? Or any others who offer it?
I'm fully aware of the other "extremely" urgent parts which will need changing whilst in the store, but as I need to get my tracking done again in a few months, then I will take full advantage of the offer :T

Kwik Fit offer a 'free tracking check' but if it needs adjusting they'll do it and charge £26.95.
Not heard about free tracking for life, thought it was only the brake pads/discs they have a lifetime warranty on. In any case the local place I now use for repairs and servicing charge only £12 for tracking, so how about getting recommendations for an independent garage?0 -
I know it seems weird to ask but as I'm fully aware that every single part except the suspension strut is brand new, then I was expecting it to be a simple trip for the tracking to be checked and adjusted (I just changed both track rod ends). I also expected they'd say that everything was desperate need of changing.
I'm also looking to change the suspension at the end of September so with the lower arms and drop links coming out it would be nice to have a free further check.
Then after every track day, it would be nice to pop in for a further check, just to check its right.
I've a local independent I normally use, but they charge £35 for tracking. I need a wheel bearing changing and the tracking doing so will call around tomorrow to find a cheaper place.
A friend said about the free tracking for life, he took full advantage of it also. Bumped a kerb, best have it checked!0 -
AFAIK when replacing track rod ends, if they're identical to the old ones, my understanding is you'll generally get it near enough by counting the amount of turns to remove and spinning the new ones on by that exact amount. You'd probably get it closer than kwikfit would using that method0

Yeah thats how I did it, so I hope the tracking is right. I've got a steering issue which the oc that I'm part of can't diagnose and it could be alignment (hence the tracking), wheel bearing or the gearbox diff everything else has been replaced!0

If you are serious about doing trackdays then you will soon find yourself having to play around with tracking settings depending on which track, tyres etc. just having sold my track only monster, I've been there.
Its so simple to make a track checking device I would definately go that way, don't even buy something made for the job. If you are capable of changing track rod ends, you are well capable of setting your own tracking. At least then you can be assured it is correct which is more than can be said if QuickKrap do it. It is unlikely to want to remain standard anyway.
Tool is easily made from 3 bits of 1" x 1.5" timber. These are screwed and glued together. A horizontal rail passes acccross the car and 2 vertical legs are added just longer than the centre height of the wheels. Put a wood screw in place at wheel centre height on each side, the head of the screw set to bear against the centre edge of the wheel rim. You then use this comparator to measure the difference between the back of the rim to the front of it. (By adjusting the screw and then comparing to the other edge)
Manufacturers figures are given in the manual and should be the starting point.
Dead simple and dead cheap, just size it to suit your car and never fork out again:money: :money:
Edited to add;Off topic I know, but if anyone can add a picture of the car for me I have several which I'm sure would be of interest, it was a bit of a beastI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
