Do I need a TV licence to watch TV online?
BBC and other broadcasters can surely get info of who I am from my internet provider as I watch programs on their site?
The post above is right - you don't even need a licence if you have a TV, as long as you're not watching things at the same time as they're broadcast They try and make it as confusing as possible so that people will end up paying even if they don't need to :rolleyes:0 -
Others have advised that if you actually tune out the BBC stations and let the visiting 'enforcement officer' see that all your tv's do not recieve BBC then you don't have to pay the license fee; however, this may be more tricky to do with freeview boxes although it should be possible.0

I think it's nigh on impossible with Sky...
That and I like watching Doctor Who and things on the big telly! Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0 -

I'm all for the pro choice option, plus it annoys me that the rest of the world get to watch BBC for free and we are paying for it.
I'm quite happy to have adverts myself, gives me time to do what needs to be done.
At the very least, call a spade a spade and call it BBC licence!!

I may well be back though ;o)0 -

No use doing just that, receiving Channel 4, for example, would still count. It isn'ta technically a licence to receive BBC programmes (though they get the fees) but simply for receiving TV programmes as they are broadcast.0 -
I ditched the license after seeing the poltically correct bias, and hearing the sickening paydeals for presenters like Johnathon Ross in the region of £18 million pounds.
The presenter of 'Have I got news for you' - Angus Deaton - £50k per 1/2 hr episode. Even the former Governer of the BBC Greg Dyke agrees the license fee should be scrapped.
Its a corrupt institution paid for by corrupt outdated law backed up with terror tactics.so says another ordinary mug fighting the 1% who own the political machine grinding them down from on high...

this won't help, the BBC make a lot of programs for other tv companies, ie Granada, sky etc. And they still want your licence fee share of thatLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
Report on BBC website this morning - someone is sitting up and taking notice of the horrible tactics used by SALESMEN employed by Capita.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7603258.stm0 -
Laws always benefit governments (and their affiliates, like the Police) NOT the people.
In the case of the TV Licence, NuLabour collect the licence fee 1 year in advance (through their/The BBC's collection arm: Capita).
Around £3.2 BILLION per year is collected from this vile tax and the interest over one year (I'll let you figure how much... it's a hell of a lot) goes to the treasury.
The BBC, in return for the governments gracious freebie handout called the 'TV Licence', promotes NuLabours political agenda, lets the government decide who is employed on the BBC|Trust, and generally does what NuLabour says.
It's called a Quango.
This is why Blair gave the BBC another 10 year deal to collect the tv tax a couple of years ago.0 -
I cancelled my TV license earlier this year. As long as you are not receiving broadcasts you don't have to pay it. Nobody has ever come round asking me about my lack of license, although I do work and they probably only come round during work hours anyway. The majority of tv seems to be reality shows now from what I hear(!) and I can watch reality out of my window.0
