Hi. I just came across this forum and wonder how legit the advice actually is. Tbh it would be very nice not having to pay for the dire programs and blatant political bias rubbish they churn out now.
many thanks

i doubt it's real. If you could just not pay just because you don't like their programs, then everyone would just stop paying whether they liked the programs or not. Secondly it could be a sting operation by the bbc to collect the address of all non payers and then bust them, so i would steer well clear.
There are lots of people in the country who pay the fees even though they don't want the bbc channels so what they should do is block is them out so if you want the channels you have to pay. You shouldn't be forced to pay. We are all going digital soon so it should be possible to supply the channel to those want it. If this happens they will be forced to charge a fair price for the channels, as it is they can charge what they like cos people have to pay but for the other channels you can get over 100 channels for £16 a month0 -

Well if you so don't like the programmes, don't watch TV. That way you don't need to pay for a licence.
If you watch TV but think the programmes are dire, then you ought to find something else to do instead when your licence expires. You won't need to pay for a new licence.0 -

I did intend to do more of a post but I had family land so had to keep it short, but what I will add is that after reading through most of the article it does raise some dubious questions aimed at the said corporation.
Its obviously a political forum of types as its accusations are pretty hard line. Treason being one and also the (illegal?) funding it has received that seems to be indicated towards showing a bios in favour of the EU. Now this is NOT a political thread just more of a point as a fee payer; should we be witness to this propaganda if its true? and no I don't watch the rubbish I'd rather converse with my little girls teddy bear as it would be more enjoyable and yes I do know where the off button is ^^ but I have family that enjoy some of the programs.
Its an eye opener and to act upon the information is obviously the big questions. Just wanted to know more feedback about its issues before I make a decision. thanks in advance.0 -
What is sad is that people spend their time thinking of ways to justify not paying what they are required to pay.0

Sure, sounds like great advice... as I'm sure the OP on the linked thread will testify!

Just get rid of the TV. All the decent stuff ends up online anyway, either at the BBC website, 4OD or on youtube.Happy chappy0

But you can, if you are willing to suffer the consequences. If enough people stopped paying then something would be done. There comes a point when it is not economical to prosecute everyone, so you have to change things.shadowspy24 wrote: »Secondly it could be a sting operation by the bbc to collect the address of all non payers and then bust them, so i would steer well clear.
And that is outstanding thinking, well done for mentioning that. Although I think the Beeb are to stupid to think of something like that. From my decades of experience, I think they simply rely on their original method. Assume everyone in the country has a TV and go after anyone who has not bought a license.shadowspy24 wrote: »There are lots of people in the country who pay the fees even though they don't want the bbc channels so what they should do is block is them out so if you want the channels you have to pay. I agree, but I think I would be in the position of thinking "There are some very good programmes on the BBC, but are there enough to pay for them?".
On the other hand I think they should go commercial, but commercials between programs, not during them. I also think they should be able to make money from product placement. Instead of making programmes where the character pours his corn flakes into a bowl, but it is a made up box, let's charge kellogs to have their box in the programme.
It would work, as long as the script writer's didn't write with the adverts in mind. It's got to be better than making shows that are only their to make money from the viewers phoning in to vote.0 -
Willwill, you could do what a friend of ours has been doing for years: she uses her TV only to watch dvds/videos. She contacted TV licensing to make sure she didn't need a licence as she had no aerial, so couldn't tune in to any stations. They told her she was not legally required to buy a licence but that they would come to her home to verify she was unable to receive a TV signal- they've never done this though.0

There is another thread on the go about TV Licensing at the moment.
Your post again shows that TV Licensing put out incorrect information - to be blunt - they lie !
They have no power to set foot on your property.
Whether she can "receive a TV signal", or not, is totally irrelevant; the offence is "watching, or recording live TV" - no more no less !0 -

I know that TV Licensing do not have the right to enter your home unless you invite them, which was what my friend did, so that they could check she had no means of watching/recording live TV. My post was just to suggest an option for the OP, i.e- he could use his TV as my friend does and save himself the licence fee.0
