Hi,
I am looking to get my finances back on track having realised since my husband lost his job that we have been living beyond our means for quite some time , and have 3 loans, credit cards and large overdraft as well as mortgage I realise drastic action is needed. It would be great to join the September GC , there are 5 of us , me DH , grown up DS , 27 , DD 14 & DS 13 , currnelty spending way too much on food, which I am ashamed to say often gets wasted . Could you tell me if this challenge just includes food or if it is to include all spending ie prtrol, dinner money, bus fare etc?0 -
Morning all,
Just updating my sig before everyone else gets up. So far have paid the Milkman £9.80 (pay every two weeks), £17.64 in the butchers, but this does include a beef joint for todays lunch:cool: £4.80 for fruit on the market and £10.32 from three other shops making a total spend of £42.56. Will need to do a top up shop of fruit & things for the packed lunches on tuesday ready for the return to school on wednesday but other than that I'm going to resist....
Will be baking some scones, a fruit cake and biscuits this aft to keep us going.
Have a lovely day everyone

I've spent £39.93 already and I don't have anywhere near a weeks worth of meals and I forgot to get stuff for my DS packed lunch tomorrow!
Just goes to show when you are adding it makes you realise how much you are spending.
It didn't help that I sent OH to the shop yesterday for cooking oil and he managed to spend over £6 on sweets and stuff. I don't know why as I had spent all day baking and there was loads of HM stuff to eat inc double choc chip muffins (yum). Note to myself - don't send hubby to the shop!
Made HM pizza yesterday for tea and it was delicious. Like many others on here, I had a pretty productive day with MSE being down, but I hope it doesn't happen too often!
JulesDebt at highest May 04 - £65,639.22 - Started DMP with CCCS 1st June 04 & now self managed DMPDebt now 20th December 2015 £31677.13 Paid Off to date £33962.09 - just not going quickly enough!
Debt free date July 2024! I don't think so, it'll be going quicker than that!!!

Morning all
Hi Erin and welcome on board.. We all do different on here.... I only count food, toiletries and cleaning stuff in my budget...so that also includes hubbies packed lunches for work every day...
Its really up to you how you work it... you could try just counting food/cleaning/toiletries and dinner money in it and then having a seperate budget for petrol and bus fares...
Don't worry about not hitting your target.. use this months challenge to see how much you spend and then you can always reduce it a little each month until you are at a level where you are happy.. You will get loads of help, support and recipes on here :T
Right then folks... its roast chicken (roasted it yesterday) hm stuffing (using the end chunk of yesterdays loaf) roast potatoes, cauli, peas n carrots for dinner today nomnomnom
I have a bowl of dough proving at the moment and once i have stripped the chicken off I will turn it into a pan of hubbies fave -chicken n sweetcorn soup -so that will be his lunch at work tommorow with fresh bread
I need to stew the blackberries n apples and freeze them ..heck knows where..
I did a count up yesterday and i now have 20 bags of roasted veggies (all from the garden:D ) in the freezer -so thats 20 pasta dish bases for us over winter -and stil loads more tomatoes, peppers etc to come off :j
today is going to be lots of x stitching again... I'm getting there with mums xmas pressie..
Im going to make it my mission to use up as much as i can from the freezer this month.. just things like the bags of whoopsed organic filled pastas, packs of mozarella etc -they take up quite a bit of room that could be better used as i will probably need to make some sausages next month..
Hopefully hubby being off work for 2 weeks -starting friday will help as we can eat things at lunch time that I couldn't do him for pack ups
right Im off again..have a great day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Hello erin - I'm new to this challenge too - but everyone seems supportive and wellcoming on this thread. I too have some debts that I'm trying to clear and I also waste far too much money on food - so I thought this might be a way of gaining inspiration and motivation to reduce my grocery bill! In my house there is myself and 4 kids aged 16,15,6 and 4. My partner eats with us sometime and my DD1's boyfriend is reguarly found foraging in the fridge. We also have a dog.
I think I currently spend about £100/week - but I'm not exactly sure - I am going to set a budget of £300 for the month!0
