Just taken my brown soft rolls out of the oven. Didn't get home from clothes shopping (mostly browsing, M&S Gemini) for DD until after 11pm and need them for our picnic at Chatsworth. I resisted the temptation to call in at either Tesco or Asda 24hr to get some so felt good about that. Fell asleep while they were proving so they got a bit big.
Hope they cool quickly so I can put them away, but then I will be using them in a couple of hours. Have tried a warm one with pastrami, shared with DS who is still up too. I want another, but will resist it.
No GC spends [STRIKE]today[/STRIKE] yesterday Must put my toiletries spends in before I forget.
See you after the shutdown!

A woopsie is what they call a reduced item in Asda's (or Mr A's) so all reduced items are called woopsies just because it's easier I think (and we like the name), but basically it is an item that has been reduced.
Ha ha, don't be silly, I don't know either, but they would probably be under pulses... I seem to remember seeing lentils and stuff in packets opposite the baked beans, so would imagine it's near the tinned and dried veg. They also do kidney beans in tins, that I do know.
As for chilli powder, look for the spice rack part (the shwartz stuff but get the shops own), it will be in there with those (where the salt, pepper, etc is, usually but not always, near gravy?)
HI
Thanks, I couldn't bear asking in Mr A's or Mr T's where the kidney beans are, I would feel so embarrased. I would rather walk round several times looking or get my nearly 8 yr old dd1 to go and ask, haha
I am very interested in stepping up my challenge now to bulk cooking and freezing, never done it before, never made a curry or chilli.
I havn't eaten kidney beans of any type of bean apart from baked beans for ages as when I did eat them I could not stand them as they were hard and didnt like the texture so never bought or cooked them.
But, when we went to friends house on Monday bank Hol they had done a rice dish and it had bean things in it, I asked if I could give mine to my DH and my friend said try them, so I did. They were soft and not as bad as I thought they would be, or as bad as when I had them before.
So now I am proud to say I now want to start cooking with them.:j

In August we got lots of cereal, pasta and milk, so that saves money for September. I also expect to be eating porridge more now so MrEL gets all the Cheerios
Plans for September:
1) Get a cheap freezer to keep outside (no room inside!)
2) Go to LIDL and stock up on pesto, parmesan, coconut milk, cous cous, juice & more (if anything is cheaper than my pricebook... - see my blog for details by clicking my username)
3) Batch cook Queenie's Curry Base & freeze
4) Batch cook Sag Aloo & freeze
5) Only buy lunch at work max 4 times for the month (Friday treat maybe)
6) Buy no household items as August was expensive & we need nothing urgently
7) Transfer any September Grocery savings to our ISA (didn't happen in August due to point 6 above!
Welcome back to the UK AL and hope you settle back in ok :T
Great blog by the way.
I love the idea of the price book, I am always trying to figure out what is cheaper and where but not succeded yet.
I am wondering if I will find one in our stationers when I'm in town tomorrow.
The idea of keeping a log of prices is right up my street
Thanks for the great blog, great ideas.:A :A :AJuly 185.19/200/Aug=170.25//200//sept=81.24/200. 2adults,3 kids + 2 dogs.

Okay, well I should be in bed as I am moving house tomorrow but it is such a mess in here. I look at something I need to do, like empty the desk drawers, and then give up as I have so much junk. It's a good job the forum is closed tomorrow or I would procrastinate more...You will be pleased to know that my new house does have broadband
.
They have a sharing food policy and it looks like about £25 each a week, not too bad but I won't be in control of it as I am not buying it in so please can I be put down for £10 a week for any other grocery spending, like toiletries and lunches, just so I can keep coming in and picking up on all the great tips and advice?
Stacie, welcome along, I think you will soon find this whole thing really addictive. I'd start by working out a few easy meals that you both enjoy and build up gradually, you will feel so good when you cook something for you guys to eat, it's really rewarding and you know you are looking after yourself too. Don't worry about asking questions either, everyone on here does it I'm sure and like people have said, everyone has got to start somewhere :TGod is good, all the time

I just thought it was home decor stuff but I got some noodles, car mats and some silly little playing type cards with things to do to make work more fun.

Dont be embarrassed, you should see some of my questions, like where do I find kidney beans and chilli in a supermarket. How embarrasing is that.
But if you've never bought them then you wouldnt know, would you ????? lol
:rotfl:
That's why I love OS so much! If you posted something like the above on some of the other boards on here (which shall remain nameless!!) you would get absolutely slaughtered mercilessly by all those who like to assert their dubious 'intellectual superiority'!

Was having a look in my freezer today, and wow, it is much easier to find things now
there is more space after my eating through some last month, and I have to challenge myself to finish the stuff off this month...
Main reason I want to do this is I cut up some onions and froze them raw and they made the whole freezer STINK. Smell is still lingering, after using baking soda which got rid of the worst of it, and I want to do a proper defrost anyway.
I have read other people do this, and how do you stop them smelling??Cook them first?? I ended up defrosting and throwing them out, so it was all for nothing, just because of the smell...
