Anyone who is unsure about being in the challenge because they are so skint, try and stick with us! This thread has been totally invaluable for me in getting costs down, but even more in giving support and making it all feel like a challenge instead of a chore :j Helen

    My thoughts exactly!
Even when we don't get our budgets down as far as we'd like to, we're all doing so much better than we would have without this challenge.
I don't have time to post on here very often, but still read the thread and get lots of support and encouragement every time, so thank you all!

  • I would like to join the challenge for October please. Have never done anything like this before but my food bill has gotten silly over the past month or two.

Would like to try for £200 initially - eek!

:hello: Evening everyone, just logged on to update total and catch up on the thread.

Went to Mr S today as we were passing and stocked up on a few things. Most of the items will be used next month though;) . Spent just over £18 and that has left us with £2.71 to last til the end of the month:eek: .
I know its not alot but I can't see us needing anything until next week.

    Evening all

Thanks Scotsaver and Orkney -for missing me -awwww shucks :o:D

I am trying to post less as I tend to "waffle" and I have STILL posted more than anyone else :o :rotfl: I do miss it though :D ...Only popping by now as hubby picked up 3 packs of whoopsed organic butter whilst he was out -he knows its my fave :T -its the Tesco one in the green wrapper from the NAAFI -and @ €1 whoopsed price its more expensive than full price German stuff -but tastes soooo much nicer .... I refuse to pay the full price of €2.69  so when we see it whoopsed we grab it -so i had better add another €3 to my total ;)

Whilst im here though hehehe - the last 11lbs of tomatoes are ripening nicely :T ..and I have cleared lots of tubs outside ready for setting my broad beans and other bits n bobs next month ..Got hubby to build one of my rose arches so i can visualise where to put them -heck they are big  ..and I have 9 -well at €2 each I couldn't resist :rotfl:

I got my Electric Preserving boiler for €30 in the supermarket the other day (can't remember if I have mentioned it on here  ) so next season im going to be preserving like a demon :D

Im re-working my meal plan so I know what else tin wise etc I need to get to finish my winter bulk buying off... so i will have enough cornedbeef, suet, etc to last through winter ;)
Next month there should be very little I need so I will use some of my budget on the stockpile... I don't know what is going on -but I just don't seem to be able to get my freezers run down -as fast as i take something out -I cook and end up putting some back in
right enough waffle -Better get off -keep up the great work everyone :D

I was going to join you with a payday - payday challenge, we get paid 21st, but I have already shredded some receipts from Mr Ts online shop etc so will amake a mental note to do 1st of Oct challenge. Need to think about what's realistic, 2 people with large appetites, 3 meals a day. No kids but a DH who is partial to innocent smoothies....

  • Having gone to Mr T and Sains (and Co-op)

    Weeks shop = £6.11

    Declared at £34.37

    I guess that's a win.

Decided that I am going to make Honey cake then see if I can find some change lying around my house to by some cookies.

@ MSE Forum Mods; Apologies for link...I just wanted some chocolate coins

  • Hello,
I fell off the wagon in September and didn't join the challenge....and it showed! I spent WAY too much and want to get back on track for October. Please can I join the challenge in October? Our target is 190 for October, but hopefully we'll stay well below this. I've even made meal plan for the whole month! I can post if anyone's interested to see. I'm hoping by planning the whole month it'll help keep us focused even when we're too busy to be thinking about groceries!
