Manual v Automatic
Comments
-
If you prefer automatics, then go for the automatic. Some automatic cars do cost more to run than their manual equivalents because of fuel etc, and the purchase prices can be higher. But if it gives you a bit more confidence, it may be a price worth paying. Only you can choose which you are most comfortable with, but if you think 'auto' then go for it. At the end of the day, you're the one who will be driving it, not us! And your confidence will improve the more you drive...0

Don't get me going again.................
There is another recent thread re autos if you want to read it...
Its quite controversial. I echo previous poster, if you prefer an auto then get an auto. Whats the problem with that?
I drive what I want - no one tells me what to drive. You should think about doing the same. It really has nothing to do with anyone else.Genie

Could ALL nervous drivers of any gender please stay off the road and forget all about driving please? It really is an admission of a disaster waiting to happen.
Thank-you.0 -
Thanks. I just think I needed confirmation. Everyone thinks that manuals are the right car to drive but I need to do what I feel happy with.
I don't think manuals are necessarily the right car. I've had about 20 years driving in each type of car and far prefer not having to bother with the clutch, although I sometimes choose to over-ride the automatic gear selection, and hill starts are much easier. My wife wouldn't go back to manual now anyway, and we are now on our third automatic in a row.
They are generally a bit dearer to buy, but I've not been aware it costs more to run.
We all have opinions, but I would get what I wanted and felt happier to drive. Nothing wrong with being a bit wary of the road as you probably 'read it' a bit more.0 -

Thank-you.
I WAS a nervous driver (and very reluctant) but since passing my test in 2000 (in an auto) I feel that I am now a relatively good driver - I have never had a bump and have never been pulled over by the police.
I am told that I have good road sense and that people feel confident in my abilities as a driver.
You can't go around telling nervous people to 'stay off the road' - sometimes it's the over-confident drivers that cause other drivers to become nervous0 -
I got thanks for my post.
Enough said.0 -
