Hi guys was playing GTA IV this morning when it decided to hang  I thought okay not a problem ill just restart the console, then it decided to give me a white screen with the message " To play this disc you need to insert it into an Xbox360 Console" ive tried several times with different games and im still getting the same message
does anybody have an idea what the issue is? Ive had the 360 for about a year and never had this issue at all and never had anyproblems with it. Its almost like the Xbox has lost the ability to read the disc the games are on. sorry about no paragraphs but typing this at work and for some reason it wont let me do paragraphs  any help would be much appreciated

its a hardware failure0

if you are within the one year warranty period, you can have it sent to MicroSoft and they will fix this for you or give you a refurbished xbox,, but if you are not within the warranty you will have to erm cough lie, and tell them you have three red lights which is covered by Microsoft for 3 years and they will fix this for you too.
also if you still have your reciept and are within the one year warranty period take it into the store you bought it from with the reciept, its easier that way as you will get a new oone there and then as a pose to weaiting for nearly a month with MicroSoft to send you a new one.
hope this helped0 -
This is often a sign that the DVD drive is forked, sadly...
I had it happen on mine for a while, but then it kinda went away.
It also happens if the disks are scratched or dirty, so make sure it's doing it with *all* your games and not just a duff couple...
This isn't covered by the 3 year RROD policy, I think it's about £65 to get MS to repair, so dig out your records ASAP and try and get it back to the shop if it's under a year old (or just over, they might be OK with it).0 -
cheers guys
uurrrgghhh i thought as much that it may be hardware failure as it justsounds like the disc drive is ticking over trying to read the same part of the disc as if there is a scratch on it (all my discs are immaculate as i look after them) Is Microsoft's return policy any good at all? and do they collect it from you? or is it a case of sending it Recorded Delivery?

I believe they'll pick it up and drop it off...they certainly do that for the free repairs (RROD), not sure about charged ones.0

Cheers Idiophreak  , Is it easy enough to replace the DVD Drive myself? or is it compicated?Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -

you do not want to do noe of this yourself, if you play xbox live and you tamper with thigns, it will say your xbox is modded and ban your console from accessing xbox live
when this happenned to me i told them i had 3 red lights, cause im just such a nerd i was diagonosed successfully lol and they took it off me free of charge(i was 3 days past my warranty)
im guessing you do not have the reciept then?!0 -
It's not something I'd suggest doing myself...
If you can find any proof of purchase (bank statement etc), taking it to the shop is by far the best option - get a new one straightaway and don't need to worry anymore0 -
im pretty much sure ive got the reciept in the box (i keep things like this
) just that i would rather not be without my Xbox for weeks on end lol. I mean if i have to send it off then so be it cos i would like to get the Xbox Live at some point so dont really wnat to screw that up. Im pretty much sure though that its past a year when i bought it though but ill have to check once i get home from work tonight
Its such a pain in the !!!! though  i only wanted to have a couple of goes on it before i went to work today lol

:hello:
It would have been end of Sept, beginning of Oct when you bought it cos you got Halo 3 with it and that was released at the end of Sept last year0
