It was from expedia.com.au, the link below is to the text I posted ( I don't think the link works but it shows its from the .com.au site)

Sorry, I'm tired and no doubt being thick...but why may tickets only be sold in North America, from an Australian site!?

    EDIT:

    SURCHARGES
BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND UNITED KINGDOM
    ORIGINATING THE UNITED STATES -
IF THE FARE COMPONENT INCLUDES TRAVEL FROM/TO/VIA AREA 2
A FUEL SURCHARGE OF USD 213.00 PER DIRECTION WILL BE
    ADDED TO THE APPLICABLE FARE.
    ORIGINATING UNITED KINGDOM -
IF INFANT 0-1 WITHOUT A SEAT.
    THERE IS NO CHARGE.
    ORIGINATING UNITED KINGDOM -
THE PROVISIONS BELOW APPLY ONLY AS FOLLOWS -
TICKETS MAY ONLY BE SOLD IN NORTH AMERICA.

    AND
IF THE FARE COMPONENT INCLUDES TRAVEL VIA AMS
    NOTE -
SALES ARE PERMITTED WORLDWIDE HOWEVER WHEN SALE
IS IN NORTH AMERICA ON OTHER THAN KL TICKETS
THIS FUEL Q-SURCHARGE WILL BE APPLICABLE.
  • Just found this in the depths of the NWA fare rules for the ticket i booked using this method...

ORIGINATING UNITED KINGDOM - THE PROVISIONS BELOW APPLY ONLY AS FOLLOWS - TICKETS MAY ONLY BE SOLD IN NORTH AMERICA. AND IF THE FARE COMPONENT INCLUDES TRAVEL VIA AMS NOTE - SALES ARE PERMITTED WORLDWIDE HOWEVER WHEN SALE IS IN NORTH AMERICA ON OTHER THAN KL TICKETS THIS FUEL Q-SURCHARGE WILL BE APPLICABLE. - - - - THIS FUEL Q-SURCHARGE WILL NOT BE APPLICABLE WHEN SOLD OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA ON KL TICKETS. A FUEL SURCHARGE OF USD 125.00 PER DIRECTION WILL BE ADDED TO THE APPLICABLE FARE.

Looks like this is just a very weird rule.... If this ticket is brought through a US agent, then you pay the Q sur charge. By buying via expedia.com.au, this does not apply. This is only available to return journeys that originate from the UK and have some portion going through Amsterdam.

Loop hole this maybe, but it is in firm black and white on NWA's own website!

Just booked to go to see my friends in San Diego next April. Birmingham to San diego and back again for AUD342. I make that about £160. No Quidco points, mind. Let's hope it works (I'm still waiting to see - it seems too good to be true). Big thanks to the OP.

This works. This is a great find......

Basically - I called Expedia Australia and they KNOW of the error. Its a technical error. They cant remove the KLM, Northwest & Air France flights as the system is linked directly to a worldwide reservation system. Removing them from their searches would also remove a lot other airlines too and in turn lose more business.

So they wont take any bookings over the phone with these airlines but if it allows you to book it online, then it will be honoured - its simple (or so they say!).

Once receiving the confirmation, they issue ticket numbers with 72 hours (as this the deadline from AF, NW & KLM on their sale fares for agents to submit ticket numbers). As people will be booking hotels, car hire and other things too, they will recover a lot of the losses in the secondary spend people will make. They make more money on ground arrangements by the way so its not a bad thing really for them!!

This isn't going to last long so dont hang about.........icon_razz.gif

Well I booked a good deal for a trip I was planning anyway, still a bit worried until ticketed though.

Does this not mean the airlines will charge you the US$213 (or the US$125 as mentioned above) each way when you arrive at the airport? Still not 100% convinced.

You're not originating in the US. The only possiblity maybe is a charge coming home if they have booked as 2 separate flights?

Sale isn't in North America, it's in Oz.

Be careful with allowing enough time to change planes.
