regarding hiding the cables, there is no magic way to hid them other than putting a hole in your wall. Before our living room was completely re-plastered I cut a channel in the brickwork with angle grinder & chipped out the brick work with chisel. I then ran some plastic ducting down the channel, which was plastered over. A lot of hassle & hard work which was only justified because the whole living room was being done.
Another option would be to run some plastic trucking down the wall which would be less obtrusive than plain dangling wires but not perfect.
