That'll be a pirate version then will it?

why would it need to be a pirate version? Some people are honest, you know!

I dare say the majority of people won't have actually bought an operating system retail, relying on the OEM install that came with the machine. .0

Or getting their own OEM version afterwards! Go OEM!Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

I would suggest u actually use vista 64 bit for anything like encoding , doubled with 4 gig ram and a quad core processor.Your encoding time saving would be at least 25 percent and perhaps more than 4 times ME and double xp.Msot encoding software has been enhanced for vista and its use of multicores on 64 bit.
Im not a fanboy , I would also recommend a mac for doing the same thing.
Notably you should do more research , you dont need a expensive graphics card for encoding , so theres a saving.Memmory is dirt cheap and if matched and interleaved then performance is boosted somewhat.
I suggest any brand name motherboard , a top notch powersupply , 4 gigs of perfromance ram matched to the cpu ie c2q and ditching the idea of using ide altogether and only using a smallish high perfomance sata 2 hd with a larger sata 2 budget hd to save to after encoding. Then tweak some system settings in vista for perfromance boosts.
Speaking of boost by removing unused programmes and loaded files and drivers , ie junkware used by most programs to auto run , then it works even better...I removed most of the startup software that stays resident and found marked improvements.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0
