I run my own business and I'm currently eight months pregnant. For me I've been really quite ill of and on during my pregnancy so being able to fit work around how I felt has been wonderful for me.

However, my maternity leave officially starts on Monday, I'm still chasing money I'm owed and information for invoices I owe and have been since mid July! Thanks to the backlog I may get paid my maternity allowance sometime around when the baby goes to university! I found the MA form an adventure to fill in as well, I was never sure what they were actually asking!

Having said that when my matertnity leave ends I won't have to organise childcare (the work I do I do from home, and it's very much part time), or time off for any important sprog based appointments.

For me, so far, working for myself is worth the extra hassle it brings but there are times I wish I had a 'proper' job! lol

The worst thing I thought was the unexpectedness of birth and how it would all go on the big day and the worry about going back to work or not going back to work and how we'll get by financially.

I am now on my 2nd last week of mat leave and not going back to work to work 25 hours a week for £20 in pocket after all expenses paid and the stress of it all.

Don't think I would have much liked to have been self employed when preg, friend was and she was literally back at work within weeks of birth.
