OS temporarily gone out of the window

Options
It's like this:
kids in unironed clothes, we ate chips from the chippy last night (had them fetched for us) the house is covered in dust and clutter and we have not had proper home cooked food since Sunday bcos I think i have the flu or something, whatever it is it is horrible. They had instant mashed potato on Monday  left over from our holiday in a mobile home. My kids are too little to help out in any big way, but dd phoned her dad to fetch them and take them to school - this was her idea!:)
Nothing much in the freezer cos i had been emptying it out and im that shattered I will have to have a lie down after this.
Do any of you have a contingency plan for this sort of thing? I think I should have something in place for the future!

It's the empty freezer that's the rub. If you're emptying out ready for defrosting, as I am too right now, you're a whole lot limited in what you can do.

Anyway, OS isn't a religion and you will not be cast out into the darkness if you can't manage to do much (of anything at all) when you're ill.

Apart from takeaways to help out through the really rough patches it's maybe just a case of doing very simple meals like beans on toast (maybe with cheese melted or just grated on top) or pasta a with a bottle of ready made sauce on it (or a quickly whizzed and simmered tin of toms plus herbs)...

    ..really simple EASY meals...

..and whatever else you do - allow yourself to be ill, don't fight it you'll only wear yourself out, so let nature take its course. or whatever your doctor has prescribed for you.

Just do what you can, as you can, with plenty of rest in between a few short little five minute bursts.

  • Hope you feel better soon, a jacket potato with load of butter and cheese maybe even beans would be nice. Or a big bar of chocolate! :D

  • Hi Sarah

Sorry to read about your concerns.

You have always been an inspiration to me and always take on board your advice/comments etc, but please dont fret too much. If your ill theres not alot you can do and as long as the kids are being fed something it doesnt matter-it will only be for a couple of days ;) You are an amazing mum and so what if their clothes are creased, theres dust everywhere and kids eating instant mash......you just get yourself better hun!

Is there anyone that could help out-friends/family/ex partner?

Quick easy fillers for us are: jacket spuds/eggs/omelletes/things on toast/pasta/cheesy mash

If you werent emptying the freezer-knowing you-you would have frozen meals in there anyway :D

Hope your feeling better soon-theres alot going round. Me, DD & OH all have it

  • I know this a terrible hindsight comment, sorry, but it's often the case that we don't have emergency strategies in place for when the bad stuff happens so while you're laid up it might be an idea to 'plan' for the next time your ill - hoping of course that it won't actually happen
If I could suggest that because you are reliant just on yourself to get things done you have an emergency box with all the things you might need - such as non perishable foods that you all can eat at a push like Vesta, noodles, tins both savoury and sweet, medicines, dried milk etc also phone numbers that the kids can use for you to get a neighbour or relative round. When you have the box made up put it where your eldest can find it.
It'll give you peace of mind that it's there

((((((HUGS))))) to Sarah, hope you start to feel much better soon. It is good advice to rest as much as possible if you can (I know not easy with children ) but if you rest now you will avoid being ill for much longer (I didn't and now have CFS) Take lots of shortcuts and on no account feel guilty about it! Ol Style will be ready to take up again when you feel better.

There is another thread today about not beating yourself up when ol style goes out the window, just goes to show you are not alone!:D

Huge hugs from me, as everyone says you won't be cast out into the desert for not being old style for a few days. Look after yourself first and foremost, everything else can wait until you're better.

Everyone is right, don't beat yourself up over it. Just rest and take the easy options with meals etc until you're back to normal.

    Take care
