when my mum had postnatal depression we survived on "winter soup". Which was the euphemistic term for a tin of heinz vegetable soup with boiled potatoes in it, for extra carbohydrate loading. Dead easy to make!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

I think everyone feels under the weather at the moment. I've had flu for 11 days now and today was the first day that I have felt half human for all that time. Weve eaten packet food and frozen pies etc etc for most of that time except on sunday I cooked a roast and on another day I made a casserole in the slow cooker. We even went to McDonalds one of the days  Were not miracle workers who can be domestic godesses even when we feel ill.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hi Sarah, hope you feel better soon. Don't worry too much if you are "off the wagon" for a while - the whole point of the OS lifestyle is that you can get back on again any time you are up to it. And knowing that you can do things for less cost enables you to be able to survive when things do wrong, much better than if you didn't have those skills. What's wrong with using the 'convenience' stuff once in a while? It's meant for convenience!
As for the house - well, what's more important; an immaculate house or getting yourself better? The dust will wait for you!!!!! ;-)0 -
I'm sorry you're not feeling well Sarah *hugs* ... but as everyone else has said, do only what you can manage, but most of all don't feel guilty! I think it might help you to read MrsB's thread too"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

will come back to you three times as strong!

Hi Sarah,
Sorry, I've only just seen this
Hope you're having a better day after reading everything everyone's posted.
Please dont feel bad about what you havent done - remember to be proud of what you have done - even if it's only something daft.
You need to look after yourself and you need to do it properly. What use will you be to your beautiful babies if you dont??
How about a bubble bath tonight when the kids are in bed? Something you can pamper yourself with and which might help you feel a little more human too.
Obviously I dont know your circumstances, but would it be possible to get the kids dad to have them over night for one night to help out? or even to pick them up from school and have them until bed time?I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
Hope you feel better soon, and like everyone says just ignore the housework. I discovered years ago that your health and your children's happiness is much more important than a dust-free home. Hugs.0

My way of coping in this situation is to fall back on the bulk cooked dishes I have in my freezer. When Im feeling good, I cook lots-freezer is always full to the brim.
I rotate it-I dont ever run it down.
When I need to clean it, defrost it, I take everything out, put it in black sacks and get on with it-all done in less than an hour. I never do it on a hot day though-if I defrost in summer, I pick a cool evening.
This way I never run out of good home cooked food.
As far as the housework goes-its realy not important. Just take care of yourselves, feed yourselves, and when you get better you will catch up.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
I usually have tinned sardines (sardines on toast), tuna (for pasta) tinned tomato soup, etc just in case - might not be the most appetising or elaborate food in the world but still fairly tasty and when you have flu or a bad cold you can't taste much anyway! Ideally some homemade chicken soup / stock in the freezer too (does wonders) but I am rarely that organized (or I just eat the soup anyway when I can't be bothered cooking) Which is what I did with my emergency stash of frozen chicken noodle soup on Friday (not ill - just lazy!)"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

Hope you feel better soon Sarah. I'll also sugggest stocking up on tinned items, like tuna, soup, spaghetti. Tins have a long shelf life. You won't be caught out like you can when defrosting a freezer and if you're feeling ill and not up to cooking, the contents can be put in a saucepan or microwave served with bread/toast0
