I don't iron stuff that doesn't need doing - my MIL irons knickers and socks

    I don't iron anything, that's what OH's for (-:

  • Although I would prefer that they didn't, my tenants dry their clothes in the house - using an internal retractable line. So, I bought them a dehumidifier last week (£100). I jsut hope that they use it.

As a bonus, the dehumidifier water can be used in the iron.

  • Do you need a dehumidifier? We've never had any trouble with damp (although we do open the window, from time to time)

    I've been Money Tipped!
The clothes airers, we have one, are much less expensive if you buy the componats from a hardware store, and, shock horror, self assemble ;). After all, if you are going to have to screww the thing to the ceiling you can slot the struts in the holes. :)

BTW...very sad person, I love ironing. Nice aromatherapy type scented steam, warms me up when we don't use the heating, and allows such strange habits as ironing in lingerie in heels in the middle of winter. (when we don't live with my parents DH loves me ironing too). Seriously, change you mental approach to ironing and it becomes a delight rather than a chore.

A dehumidifier's great for drying clothes out more quickly, even if you don't have a problem with damp. It also raises the heat in a room slightly (at least ours does, it's about 6 years old) which is handy in the winter.

Our washer-drier works better if it's only half-full, but it's still not that brilliant. We hardly ever use it -- twice year for a duvet cover or some towels, if that often. It seems to get things dry on one side and not the other so they have to be hung up anyway.

But what if there is a glut in white goods and their price crashes once I buy. I'd feel a right fool. Better to make do with the local stream, a large flat stone and some lye soap than buy a depreciating asset like a washing machine.

My plan is to stick with the stone/stream combination for two years and then I'll check out the market again to see if it has bottomed out. Anyone who does anything different to this is an idiot.

But surely buying it now, if you're planning on using it for another 15 years it will be worth paying the price, because by then white good prices will be rising again!

We are pencilled in for recession next year (Gordon has a 'window' before the election) so not in 2009.

I am sure however that to borrow the old song, seems rather appropriate now, "things can only get worse".

When GB first came to power and there was the speculation as to whether he would have a 'snap' election and he decided not to....... I said to dh - 'he could well live to regret that!' Spooky really. Sometimes I frighten myself with my many and varied gifts.

I constantly tell dh how amazing my interpretation of the housing market last year which meant we sold our house in May. It is true, of course, even though his eyes do glaze over a bit.

We owned our house outright - we're oldish - and I think doing the ironing in lingerie and high heels is perverted.
