Exactly. So a change purse would be fantastic, if OH would actually use it!

Now, it is obvious that none of you are married to scots! OH has all his change locked in a vault protected by armed guards but he is "not tight" (his words!!)

PickledPink, I am genuinely interested - do you enjoy your lifestyle? Because it seems to me that you have some funny priorities in life. It is your life, yes, but it just seems that little bit odd to see a tumble dryer as the height of sophistication in 2008, and to feel the need to broadcast this fact to the world (or at least the forum).
I just think perhaps that you ought to start thinking of things in a new light - just some advice, not being nasty. Perhaps going to see people who have genuine problems in life (eg volunteer at a hospice or something) and then you might realise that your health, and that of your family, is far more important than anything else.
I know this is a house price board but you aren't contributing to the conversation on most threads, just boasting.

Before you get on at me saying I am bitter, I have bought a house, have a degree, AND a tumble dryer. (and all this without marrying a rich man)

Mewbie, I'm worried. You're getting too good at this (-:
Thanks very much NDG :o Sometimes the thought flows, and it feels about right.

It does also show what a vindictive spiteful person I am, using the cover of humour to attack someone. IMO this time, justified. However, it's easy to turn into a bully, and I must reign it back sometimes. Honest, I have not always pressed the send button!

The other thing I need to watch is the desire to flood threads, showing off my little witticisms. I am aware that it can become a bit tedious.

So. I thought. I won't post tonight, give them a rest. They deserve it. But when an opportunity arises...

mod: you really are up your own end tonight, even for you.

    .

On the contrary, you've made me giggle a lot, and furthermore have shown good grace when accused of crossing the line, gone back and made ffort to make those of us of a more puritanical bent more comfortable.

I don't really understand those who dislike humour in the threads. I guess they have tidy drawers though, and a clean car and never talk about work at home or home at work. All things I aspire to and never manage. Dislike of the aggression, yes, I'm in that camp...but the humour, and the understanding that for most of us things don't live in boxes..and that house prices are a part of our lives along with tumble driers and cheesecake...and sometimes the lot gets muddles up and interconnected.

You've warped the thread - the tumle dryer comment was started by Gracie who mentioned I had complained about spending so much for one (£1000.00)

All of YOU have kept THAT stupid topic running.

By the way, I so LOTS of work helping people.........................if only you knew.......................

I didn't mean helping people, just that you ought to see how there are more important things in life than the price of your house. I don't know if mine's gone down, and I won't know till I remortgage in 3 years. At present I am LIVING in it, rather than boasting about it.
In fact if I do boast about it, it's about how cheap it is compared to what friends back where I grew up have paid. (And even then it's just a small smile to myself and a nudge of the OH when we realise we are so fortunate to be in the position to own a house with an affordable mortgage).

You also say you aren't boasting about the tumble dryer, but then repost the price (£1000 - case you hadn't noticed yet).

I am glad you "help people", but what I was getting at is that there is often a "lightbulb" moment when you realise some of the things that you think matter, don't. Mine (as I have said before on here) was in Africa seeing a 3 year old die of AIDS while I was cuddling him on the hospital bed. His parents were both dead and he had no one else to cuddle him. He had been brought in by villagers who had been looking after him but they had to return to their own families. That experience followed by the illness of my own mother made me realise that some things are worth worrying about, and others aren't.

Being happy is very, very important in my eyes, and it is priceless. If knowing your house costs £500,000 and letting everyone know about it makes you happy then who am I to stop you? But I have a sneaky suspicion that you aren't enjoying what you really should be - ie your home, family, health etc.
If I am wrong, then I'm sorry, but I don't think I am.

Be grateful for what YOU have, both material things and otherwise, and stop worrying about what other people have, or being smug. You may find that you become one whole heap happier.

(sorry, in a philisophical mood tonight, couple of reasons why, too boring to share on here!)
  • Incidently, I don't have a change purse, I do the piles of change all round the house thing (and then whenever I'm out and buy something I always have to break into a note and end up with even more change! ).

So I'm thinking the change purse is a good idea! :D

I do however have a washer/dryer, but am unclear as to where that places me in the whole tumble dryer status symbol thing, perhaps someone would enlighten me?

It's simple. You, like me, don't have a tumble drier. Therefore, we are chav scum.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Phew! I'd hate to think I was getting above my station in life! :rotfl:
