At the risk of getting railed at by the "Don't get something for nothing" crowd, I was one of the people hoodwinked into believing they had won in the Dettol competition, and received a £75 voucher. Details of the shop were listed elsewhere, but I spent about £40 more on a shop, stocking up on non-perishables due to what I thought of, at the time, was a stroke of good fortune from the many competitions I enter.

I did accept the shopping after I was called (30 minutes before delivery and 24 hours after I ordered!) since I did actually need, and could use the stuff. At the time I was told that they had been 'hacked', but this was quickly recanted when I challenged it. I was offered a £5 off next shop voucher (however, they couldn't guarantee that they'd suddenly 'take this away' like they did the other voucher!).

A letter at the end of June went unanswered, so I sent it again at the end of July, this time recorded delivery. It was signed for, and by the end of August still no response (despite the letter arriving the day after it was posted.) I requested a full explanation for the error, and a refund of £40, which was the difference between what I normally spent. Again - no response.

In the middle of September, I then went on the hunt for ASDA board members, Twitter feeds for Marketing people (ASDA are actually one of the few superstores that have a great online personality and presence, and actually have human beings tweeting, always found them useful.) Mailing and tweeting to those boys and girls finally got a response, and I've just received a £30 gift voucher within 5 days of contact.

I didn't receive a full explanation, but they did apologise for the fact that my letter had been 'put to one side'. They have also invited me to use the online store again (I haven't used that or a 'real' ASDA since the end of June) but I think I'm slightly more mollified now ;) Don't think I'll ever trust their store again, but I'm pleased that they've made up for the problem they caused, although - as with all stores - why do we have to speak to the CEO or send public notice of our dissatisfaction on twitter, rather than actually having it dealt with one-to-one like I offered in the first place...

    Ah well!
