Satin sheets

  • hello all,
I say either of the first two would look great, not sure what they are called for color names. I just bought some new sheets that are Egyptian cotton and they actually feel like satin, but not so slippery.

hmm, I have to say I do like nice sheets in a 5 star hotel when I go on holiday, they are very snuggly. Though I think a lot of that might be to do with the fact they get changed everyday. Not very practical at home....

I had the same idea, about 5-6 years ago now, bought some Egyptian cotton sheets online. Can't find a record of the purchase so dunno if they were actually good-quality ones. But they haven't been particularly special...

Anyway, the Mrs. was quite clear she wanted satin, the ones in the original post claim to be better quality than the £15 ones ebay (and at six times the price they should be), but not sure if it's worth going that bit further and getting silk satin rather than polyester satin. Shame you can't try before you buy.

Other problem is the mattress I ordered is 27.5cm deep, the 'deep' sheets they list are only 26cm, so a bit confusing really.

If you want the luxurious romantic look you need cushions & a sumptuous throw.

I have white cotton sheets & bedding.

I have a huge raspberry linen over sized extra tall headboard.
    5 cushions
    2 raspberry square mongs
in front of those 2 chocolate flock style rectangles.
In front of those in the middle 1 raspberry velvet cushion, with a bit of "dirty" gold velvet on it & jewels, its rectangle & has tassels on each corner (it was £50), but its beautiful.

Then folded in half down the bottom of the bed is a huge chocolate brown faux fur throw.

Def do a load of cushions 5 (or even 7) & a throw folded in half on the bottom section;)

Tell me about it:rolleyes:

    That is a drawback:o

But when you watch the "house design" programmes now they all have oddles of cushions & a throw over the bottom half of the bed:o

Gotta chuck all the cushions on the floor to get into bed:eek:

I have 8 beds to look after.

Not a scatter cushion on any of them (can't stand them)

Life's too short - if I wanna bounce on the bed I don't wanna have to take things off it!!! :rotfl:

Not much male input on this thread... i particularly liked amcluesent's answer best of the sheet's with the free lady!

I notice every single woman on this thread told him to wait until his OH get's back!
So go on what difference does the colour of the sheets make when the lights are out?! ;)

I'm also curious to know what a mong is in this context ..don't think it's matches my definition of the word found in http://www.urbandictionary.com/ !!

I thought mong was an offensive term for person with Down's Syndrome, derived from 'mongoloid', because John Langdon Down and his contemporaries reckoned people with Down's Syndrome looked like Mongolians.

    Its a Mongolian wool cushion!!!

Jesus, talk about make something out of nothing:confused:

I wasn't sure about the spelling of Mongolian :o

The cushions are refererred to as Mongs in soft furnishing shops.
  • don't get satin sheets! unless it's for a guest room where the bed will look lovely but never be used... we had some for about a week, and then they got put away, never to be brought out again (2 years ago!). When one of you gets into bed, the other one flies out of the other side. If you turn over in the night, the pillow shoots out from under your head. And it gets very hot and clammy! It sounds as if you can afford silk, so I would go for that as it's not as slippery, and much posher.

Thanks..i thought it might be a cushion of some sort but couldn't resist saying something! No offence meant to those with Down's syndrome or mongolians - none of whom were harmed in the making of your bed (i'm assuming there is a bed somewhere under that pile of cushions :D). That amount of cushions wouldn't go down well in our house...pup is rather fond of them and considers them his own! All our cushions have holes in them now!
