insurance headache can anyone help please

Options
hiya i have 4 pets now, 3 of them are with petplan and the newest one needs to be insured but its so expensive, now obviously htey are all going to be insured but after searching through insurance policys i am now confused and astounded at the prices, so any help would be appreciated greatly

we have
jessie may a domestic long hair cat 1 and half yrs
truly scrumptious a domestic short hair cat 1 and a half yrs
nelson a german shepard cross around 8 months
mason a rottie pup 8 weeks
they are all speyed/neutered apart from the rottie as he is too young and microchipped and up to date with injections

is there a way of getting them all insured reasonabley the quotes i have been getting range from around £95 per month to a £160 per month so am now wondering wether to get the insurance or put the money away each month in savings (which i know is not ideal and dont really want to) we dont have any debts so could get the money to cover any unexpected illnesses quickly if we havent saved enough up in the savings account.
any advice is appreciated. thankyou for taking the time to read and respond

the other option i was thinking on is maybe go with some one like tesco who will cover for up to £4000 on an illness etc then if anything above and beyond that i can pay myself

    check out www.animalfriends.co.uk

i have been investigating insurance in the past week and they offer good lifetime cover policies (and also non-lifetime cover if you wish). prices are reasonable too. i was looking for insurance for a 13 year old cat and their monthly premium for the Platinum (best) lifetime cover policy was £15ish.

they are also really easy to talk to on the phone and sem to be staffed by people who are pet-lovers and knowledgable.

    Ouch...£160 a month, that is expensive:eek:

Petplan are good insurers but I think they are probably the dearest around
As all your pets are young you should be able to cover them for about £10 a month a cat and £15ish each per dog to a reasonable standard.

Who have you tried so far? and what kind of limits are there?

petplan, axa, petprotect, tesco,m&s,animalfriends, rspca, sainsburys, the list just goes on and on i cant remember them all the ones that cover for life and renew each year are obviously the most expensive but animla friends looks quite good going for the higher cover it covers up to £6000 for each illness until it runs out but im figuring anything over that we can pay ourselves its just a nightmare reading through all the policys and making sure what they cover etc

is there a huge difference in the premiums with animalfreinds between lifetime cover and the policies which do not offer lifetime cover?

fyi - i just had a cat with lymphoma - in 18 months we claimed £12000 (lifetime cover). if i hadn't had lifetime cover i would be in the Sh*t financially or my cat would not have been treated.

vets can do so much these days for animals (at a cost!) that if your pet did end up with a condition that needed prolonged care, then £6k might not go as far as you had hoped.

call them...it is 6000 per condition per year, lifetime cover

so in theory your pet could have 4 conditions, each costing 6k a year to fix - meaning a claim of 24k is possible...and this is lifetime cover, so you could repeat that sort of claim annually (highly unlikely though, otherwise they wouldn't offer it! :)

I would personally insure... ok 4 accidents are unlikely but what if one of them catches something contagious and you have to treat all 4 all at once? Our dog caught a bug and had to spend several days with the vet on a drip and loads of drugs... if that had been 4 of them then it could have been £3k+ in the space of a week... And that's just ONE instance...
Yeah you could save it up but I'd have to save for MANY years before I saved up the amounts I've already claimed for my 3 (2 cats and 1 dog)... however all mine are mongrels or non pedigrees... so insurance is cheaper as less chance of being stolen and less chance of breed typical diseases...

we are def going to insure having spent the afternoon waying up the pros and cons its just deciding which insurer now, as said before our first three pets are with petplan and they are all x breeds but its our newest one proving expensive we are deciding at the mo between animla friends and halifax i think on there highest plan not much difference in plans just waiting for price form halifax in the morning as it was late when we rung them, they are all rescue pets but because mason is a rottie he is twice the cost of the other dog averaging around £50 per month. but we will see in the morning now who to go with.
thans again for suggestions and advice. x

Try the rspca insurance and also direct line. And of course check for any cashback deals ;)
