We are just about to move to a rented property out of town. We rang BT today to see about our home phone connection only to be told that th ecurrent line has been cut and we have to pay 125 quid to have it reconnected!!!
Now this is not something we cannot do otherwise we have no phone, internet or sky but we simply cannot afford to pay this ridiculous fee when we didn't cut the line!!!
Does anyone know of any way round this?
We move in just over a week and get married in 4 weeks, all of our money is accounted for at moment to any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, have just been having a search about and noticed the post office do the same for less, now I know it is not much less but it's starting to become a matter or principle. We don't see why we should have to pay it in the first place. We don't plan to use BT's services for anything other than line rental so are going to explore the Post office offers in morning.
Thanks for your suggestion though0 -

Thanks for your suggestion thoughIf saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0 -

We have actually been in contact with Sky this morning and they have promised that if we pay the full BT connection fee then Sky will refund it as we are taking out a new connectioin with them too.
The BT offer mentioned comes with conditions which we were not prepared to agree to, we do not want to be tied to using their telephone service for 18 months.
Thanks for all suggestions helpful and otherwise.0 -
Sky won't pay you the early termination fee as well will they?
If you pay BT the full £125, you will still be tied to a minimum 12 month contract, or termination fee to cancel.
See if Sky will refund you if you use the Post Office (no minimum contract) to connect you.0 -
I'm sorry I'm not quite getting what you mean here.
We have to pay BT 125 to get our phone line reconnected because for some reason it was cut off whil enobody lived there.
We do not want to use BT as our phone service provider and are going to use Sky for TV, phone and broadband. They are going to refund the 125 we pay BT.
We are not taking out anything other that a phone line with BT and have no intention of cancelling anything so no cancellation fee to be paid.0 -
By using BT retail to arrange reconnection you are tied to them for 12 months line rental. £70 charge if you change rental to another provider within that period.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0
