I'll pass them onto her thanx :) I know she wouldnt be any good above a shop or anything though because with her working shifts, nights aswell it will effect her sleeping. I didn't know chesterfield was that close to sheffield but my geography is terrible anyway.

They were looking at unfurnished to try and keep the costs down although they don't have furniture and appliances yet, they would have to see about second hand stuff mostly but if a place had them already and they were ok and the price was right they would go for that. Its just most places that are furnished seem to have rreally old breaking down stuff and dirty sofas etc and are more money in rent, they just thought better to get thier own

They also have 2 cars to park as her boyfriend has to travel to work too.
    Thanx

I would take up the offers for advice as to the best places to rent. You have to get just the right part of a street/area to avoid potential issues. daughter has just got a 2 bedroomed flat above a shop-£56 a week each.Really nice place and it just avoids 'trouble spots' a few blocks away on either side.

Agree Woodseats is a convenient place, also Hillsborough (very good transport) and Stannington. But if you choose Stannington go for the bottom of the hill-there's a point where it's hard to get out of come the cold weather (this is another Sheffield issue because of the hills). Walkely (the nearer to Crookes end) is also good. Use the Sheffield forum for advice it is really important to get local feedback. Also look at the tramline routes-the trams are fantastic-but they don't go near the Northern General-but they do liunk to Hillsborough which is down the hill from the hospital

Beware-parking in or around the local hospitals is difficult to impossible and expensive

I mentioned to my daughter about haggling to get the rent down between 10%-15% like abaxas suggested but she seems reluctant to try in case they lose something if they like it. She said as there are students looking for accom at the moment too they may lose it if they try. They arent used to doing that kind of thing.

They are both very nice people and come accross that way too, as for haggling though because of this they could be seen as easy pushovers maybe. What would be the most effective way to try and haggle the costs down without risking losing somewhere? They would make very good tennants.

For parking at the hospital I think she can pay for that out of her wages at a discounted rate for staff, I think there most probably will be a staff carpark too.
    Thanx

Yes, my wife had to visit her father in the Northern General recently, and it was a nightmare for her driving up and down finding somewhere to park. I know the doctors get parking spaces (my daughter trained there) - but do the nurses?

flattery and turning the knife is a good method of haggling

"yes yes I think it's a lovely flat and can really see myself living there, great kitchen, decent size bathroom & plenty of space for all our books... the only thing, and I stress the only thing, which bothers me is the price, I know it's a lot to ask but [could you/could you ask the landlord if he could] do us a bit of a deal, it wouldn't have to be much, just £20 a week off the rent would be fine for us & we're happy to pay a month's deposit to go in the scheme and move in Friday week"

say per week as well - it makes it seem like less you are asking for.

I really hope so, I had better tell her to double check!
