me too, I prefer rice with curry and my OH only likes chips so I cook a big pan of rice and then make up single portions to go in the freezer for lazy day home made ready meals. My OH never eats rice but I love it0

I freeze and reheat rice too - it's so easy to cook extra and I just make sure it's really hot before we eat it. None of us have ever had food poisoning! I freeze it in butter/margarine tubs and label it.0

having done Food Hygiene, I'm aware that there can be problems with cooked rice, but I imagine it's more of a problem with large amounts in a catering environment. I never keep the stuff that comes home with a takeaway, but would use domestically done stuff.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Hi! I've done a search but not found anything on this, so if someone could point me in the right direction, sorry!
I have noticed recently that you can buy frozen rice in supermarkets, or microwaveable packets. Now, I'm on a healthy eating mission at the minute, which involves wholegrains, but am only catering for myself. To boil my brown rice to go with my meal takes around 30/40 minutes, a huge amount of time (and electricity!) to take to feed one person. I'm interested if its possible to freeze my own pre-cooked rice in portion sizes, to defrost or microwave if possible.
I'm wary of food poisoning risks from old rice, so if this something like this is completely impossible or impractical please let me know!
Thanks for any help!0 -
The risk of food poisoning from rice is when you eat rice that has been kept warm for a long time.
It is perfectly safe to freeze cooked rice and to defrost and reheat it. Make sure it is cooled quickly before freezing by portioning it up in single servings and leaving on the counter. It should cool pretty quickly.0 -
If you have a pressure cooker you can cook your rice much quicker, save energy and cook in bulk to freeze.
I am also on a mission to eat better and have been googling for the perfect way to cook brown rice. There is a lot of conflicting advice out there - if anyone here cooks brown rice in their pressure cooker please will you share any tips/timings etc? ( sorry for thread-hijacking but any replies may be useful to you too OP.0 -
I cool mine by running cold water through it in a colander. Make sure you let it drain properly before freezing.0

Yup - I freeze rice, both brown and white, whenever I have some left over. Usually put it in a plastic bag and shove a clip on it, then it's dead easy and quick to zap in the microwave. Just make very sure it's reheated properly.
