As above. You can, but re-heat it thoroughly, and only the once. If there's any left he second time, throw it away! Cooked rice is the worst food for salmonella.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

My rice(long grained rice) takes 10 minutes to cook from fresh, just needs to be soaked for half an hour first, so what I used to do when I got in from work was to wash and soak say two cups of water, while this was soaking, I went and had a wash, changed out of work clothes, by this time rice was ready to cook. Rinse and drain rice in a sieve, and boil a kettle with twice the quantity of rice (4 cups)
Oil in a saucepan,(about three table spoons) fry the rice, coating the grains with the oil, pour on the boiling water, bring to boil in pan then turn heat down to low, cover and leave for 10 mins, turn off heat and leave on cooker. Fluff up the rice with a fork and its ready to eat. (about three table spoons)
This is for plain boiled rice, but you could spice it up a bit by frying some cumin seeds (great accompaniment to indian curries) or by putting a stock cube in the boiling water before putting it in the rice. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

Had our traditional Saturday night takeaway tonight... and we recieved an extra portion of fried rice that we didn't order!
Seems a shame to bin it... can I freeze it??0 -
i think rice as far as i know is one of the worst for food poisoning. so i would not . your not even meant to reheat rice. but i have had takeaway on a sauturday night and had the leftovers for breakfast/lunch the following day ... best cure for a hangover.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0

Do not freeze it - I agree with doraexplorer - definitely one of the worst ways to get food poisoning0

My husband and I have already had this discussion! I agreed with the above posters, he disagreed and managed to prove his point. As long as rice is cooled quickly (within an hour) and reheated throughly so it's piping hot, then it should be ok. However saying that, with your rice coming from a takeaway it may already have been hanging around so I wouldn't risk it.

Sorry, going to be devil's avocate here. I've done this on loads of occasions with no ill effects. I suppose it could happen one day, but it's never happened to me yet. I freeze it as soon as it's cold and nuke it to death, straight out of the freezer, in the microwave before eating it. Once it gets cold from that it goes in the bin. On the other hand, I have thrown away home-cooked rice when it has the slightest non-rice smell or looks or feels slightly slimy. I didnt eat reheated rice while I was pregnant, just in case, but as I said previously, I've never had any problem with it.
Please dont take that as a go-ahead though - I'm not recommending it, just giving my experience.0 -
Seeing as you can buy frozen ready cooked rice in many different forms and flavours I cannot see what the problem is so long as it is cooled quickly and properly reheated.
So says the man who ignores use by and best before dates, freezes everything regardless and relies on his nose and tongue to judge freshness - I ain't died yet either!!The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0
