Does anyone actually LIKE Sainsburys?

I have had to give up driving and the nearest supermarket is Sainsburys, we have two Morrisons here, but I am stuck with this overpriced store!
Wherever possible, I try to shop elsewhere, but on most occasions now, I do not have the choice.
Their gin is £1:50 a bottle dearer, for example, why?
By our very presence on this site, we all look to keep our eyes on prices, please let's see just how much difference the new Sainsburys adverts have
made to you.

Don't mean to offend anyone but it seems like an "older" persons supermarket. Well the one by me is anyway!0

I do prefer Sainsbury's, but only because the closest to me is a Tesco's which has been overrun by very loud groups of BMW workers, and hundreds of chav-like teenagers which all-in-all made for an unpleasant shopping experience.Celebrating 31 Years of Muppetry0

The mini ones are great though - we just got a new one near us. Much better than the run-down off-licence there before. More expensive than Asda, but much cheaper than any other local shops.0

We went there when we were on holiday in Wales. It was the only unpleasant part of our holiday. The pears never ripened, a lot of the stuff we bought didn't taste very good and we were pretty shocked at the prices. Thumbs down from us but my mother in law really likes it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

It's awful. I don't drive and it's the only supermarket within two miles aside from Marks. Sometimes we walk to Tesco's/Asda but we can't really bring a lot back.
It's a Central store too so no good offers

My daughter just started working in Sainsbury after school and weekend. They seem to be much nicer to work for compared with the others.. She will soon get a staff discount card, so it's 10% off across the shop soon.
I like sainsbury for it's products, it stocks a wider range of some items and fancy stuff as well. BUT it is more expensive for basics, But with 10% off that should bring it back to normality.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
to know, like I was, that Sainsburys is regaining some market share and they may take second place next year.I work here part time.
I think alot of the credit is down to Justin King who is steering the company back to the way they were as they may have been going of course.
The Jamie Oliver effect must also be bearing fruit especially the school meals.
Of course some 3000+ prices have reduced. But along with that I guess 3000+
have gone up.
The availability has improved especially the products on the shelves/distribution.
What you will find in there is a wider range of products ie more hams etc.
So I guess the nectar card isn't that important considering Asda and Morrisons don't have one.As for Tesco -there aggressive marketing has done them very well. The key is whether they can continue showing increased profits year after year. What is sure they will be number 1 for sometime.0 -
I posted the original question.
A typical example of Sainsburys high prices:
You may know that Greenalls have had a fire, and supplies to both Morrison and Sainsburys have been disrupted.
As a regular buyer of Morrisons 'own brand '40 % proof gin at about £11.59 Sainsburys own brand 40% is £12.99 and both exactly the same!
Minute Maid orange jiuce, 1 litre £1.99 Sainsburys, £1.28 at Asda!
Any more?Filiss0 -
I do! Though possibly because my local store is a not particularly good tescos and the Sainsburys is a fairly upmarked one. I tend to prefer their own brand over tesco own brand (though I am sure some products are identical). They have good own brand coffee (the Viennese is lovely) which is quite often on offer, good wine selection. However, I am sure if this were my local store I would shop elsewhere for basics.0

Well I have a choice of Sainsburys and Tesco when it comes to supermarkets - I prefer local shops and a box scheme for fruit, veg, meat and fish but for other basics, dry goods, fruit juices, etc, etc Sainsburys is vastly superior than Tesco.
Sainsburys have much more choice, bettter quality and usually have the items I need in stock. The nearest Tesco on the other hand is overcrowded, overheated, always out of stock of several items on my list and has a lousy choice of products. More than once I have been into Tescos when I am out of food and been unable to find anything in there for a quick and easy dinner - so just end up buying eggs and cheese for an omelette......
Now if only there were a Waitrose in Edinburgh - judging by the ones I have been to in England they are way better than Sainsburys or Tescos.
So no I don't actually like Sainsburys (or any supermarket) but I like Tesco a lot less!"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
