Help! Tile Adhesive / Grout on tiles!!! (merged)

I let my hubby loose on the kitchen tiling and he has managed to get more tile adhesive on the front of the tiles than the wall. The tiles are cream and black unglazed and I'm worried they will stratch if I use anything too abrasive. The adhesive has set rock hard and is several mm thick in places.
How can I safely remove it???

I think that if you wet it quite considerably to soften it, it should come off with one of those sponge scourers or you could try chipping it off with a PLASTIC scraperI haven't got one!0

Yep very hot water is your best bet left to soak in.0

Haven't tried a steam cleaner on tiles yet, but had near disasters with my steam wallpaper stripper on walls because it can loosen and crack the plaster.
Could a steam cleaner crack tiles as well, if used to liberally?0 -
well my tiles didn't crack and trust me i used it a lot on them last night, all the mould that was on them from the previous owner took a fair bit of steaming to get rid of temWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

Try one of these scrapers the plastic type that you fit a razor blade too, they preety good is used carefully. About a £1 from DIY shops.0

I recently tiled my bathroom. My boyfriend helped but when it came to washing the grout off, he didn't do a very good job. There are now bits of grout stuck in the tiles (they are the mozaic type tiles so the grout is getting grained in). Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of this? I've been using a scouring pad but it's hard work.0

it shouldn't need anything more than warm soapy waterEven if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0
