Oh, you see it here all the time. Some slob of a bloke who discovers a girl has a pot of money and who can manage to be really charming right up until the moment he has converted the pot of money to his own advantage.
There are many decent blokes out there who don't want to pull this kind of stunt. Unfortunately, the women are often not interested in them until they have been ripped off and given a brood to drag around [often several times over]. By the time the women trust themselves to the decent blokes, the best is gone. Be thankful it is only £9000.
It's not just men though who con women out of money. Women do as well. I think the lesson to take from such a story is that falling in love with someone (man or woman) doesn't mean you can trust that person and give them your life savings.
OP, I'm a little confused. You gave your ex-partner £18,500 of your money. He send sold his car for £9,000. Who got that money, him or you?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Hi, can anyone offer any advice please? My ex boyfriend and I purchased a family car together. I paid for the car, (£18,500), initally using my savings as he wanted to get a better price for his old car selling privately. I have proof of the cheque coming from my bank account and also his car sale proceeds (£9000) being paid back in. We put the car in his name at my address as I already had a little 2 seater car. Hes now left taking the car. I sold my little car whilst we were together and so was left with no car. Now Ive had to buy a car on finance as my savings are gone. Is there anything I can do to get my share of the car back as Im struggling with finance payments, while he has our nice finance free car to run around in. Hes says I can forget it, the car is in his name, its his. Please help.

What should happen is the car should go to a dealer and valued, then he owes you half if he wishes to keep it.
As I am sure the above won't happen, you need to go to a friendly dealer and get a copy of the Glasses guide for this month and ascertain the value.
Then I am afraid you will have to take him to a small claims court for the money and show the proof of value you have obtained.

we are forgetting that to change the logbook into your name you have to fraudulently sign the old one in the previous owners name, food for thought you bunch of happy-go-lucky fraudsters0

no you don't, as my actual example above shows, all you are doing is signing a form not the log book to say either
a) you are the owner and have lost it or
b) you are the new owner and it was not available
technically either one could be argued
I am not condoning doing it I am merely saying that in our case all the other person had to do was sign a form to say they were the new owners, we weren't contacted, noone asked them to show the van as proof of ownership...........................
its up to the OP what they want to do, as I said world war 3 could start and police could get involved, but sometimes needs must............Norn Iron Club Member #64

....tell his folks. And tell yours.
I'm serious.
It would help if you all arranged to meet up to discuss.
I know it sounds stupid, or silly, but might be worth it. for 2 reasons:
First is that it might work (oh the shame of little Jimmy trying to rip off this poor girl!)
secondly, it can't hurt especially if you mention, in court, that you wished to settle the matter amicably but.....
good luck!

Hubby had his car stolen by a neighbour - he had it off the road and declared SORN, and the neighbour somehow managed to get a registration document out of the DVLA saying that this "abandoned" car was his. Not completely sure how he did it, but it took hubby quite a while to persuade the DVLA that the car was still his.0
