That's the point I wanted to get to. She paid 18.5 k but he gave her back 9k so it's not as bad as it may initially sound and it means that they both own the car so morally neither of them can take 100% of the car.

Therefore the advice to take the car from him is really unfair even he is being a complete idiot. Unless of course the OP is planning to sell the car and give her ex half of the proceeds.

Take him to court now..don't waste time.. get to your local cab they will give you god free advice .. good luck

The legal standing is the name on the dealer invoice at time of sale - that is the person who owns the car.
Title was passed to that person on invoice.
