Annoying Internet Banking!!!

I have now received card readers for both Barclays and Natwest, great I thought.

Till I learned you have to use this just to even check your balance. the idea of internet banking I thought is to make payments etc anywhere in the world. So in order to do so I need to have the following:

Card
Card Reader
Password
membership number

How annoying is that!!!!

I am with you on this. Close your accounts and move elsewhere!

Yep - I've given up on Barclay's online banking altogether.

I always access all my accounts via Egg's Money Manager (great system) - now Barclays have introduced PINsentry and it's no longer properly compatible. In fact, the last time I tried to log in it asked for all my membership numbers etc all over again, which I don't know (and I don't keep copies of for security reasons!).

Fair enough to put your PIN in before sending money, but I only ever wanted to see online statements :(

I have to agree that pinsentry is seriously annoying, but what from what i have been told, pinsentry has cut down fraud by a huge amount, i dont know if you have ever had fraud on your account, but i think i see fraud on atleast 5 accounts per day out of 100 calls while talking to customers, trust me it ruins your account and although you get your money back, it takes ages and it can make you miss loan payments and cause serious problems with your credit. I have stuck to the old method of online banking with barclays and dont intend on using the new pinsentry but most banks will start using this technology so be prepared whichever high street bank you use.

^ Don't doubt it, but couldn't I bear that risk as a customer by opting out? No, seriously, I understand - why should the bank help me out with a fraud case when I haven't used all their security measures...

I guess I question how much "fraud" can take place from someone managing to see my bank balance!

Just to say Nationwide has introduced it as well.

I dont seem to be having any issues with the egg money manager at the moment though it lets he into the account but then I need to to use the card reader to send money

Anything that protects against fraud has got to be a good thing

i received one for natwest - many months ago...... i didnt want it/ i havent registered it, yet i can still do my online banking without it....

my daughter has just received one from nationwide..... i told her to wait and see what happens if she doesnt use it....

personally it retricts the use of online banking.... if you have to carry the blooming thing plus remember additional codes/numbers/passwords
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Oh no, I was going to switch to them!!!!! I most likely won't now, because of this, well not until my current bank bring it in too.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

No need to use it at Nationwide unless you are moving money out, normal Internet Banking still works OK without it.

Also HSBC are not using the system...well not yet anyway.
