Wd haven't got a Lidl or Netto nearby, but I do occasionally go to Aldi. The only thing I'd say to definitely steer clear of is their ready meals range. I never found one that I liked.

As others have mentioned, be careful with fruit. Its normally ok, but as it's pre-packed it's not always obvious when there are any flaws. I've had the occasional packet of bananas that have ended up going straight in the bin because they were so mushy inside, though they looked ok from the outside.

Anything tinned is good, especially the tins of chilli which are excellent.

Hi My family are definate "converts" to Aldi now after a friend recommended shopping there. We smile now when we see everyone queueing and getting hot and bothered at Tescos and our shopping bill has about halved!

Good points are no queues in Aldi, can shop in relative peace and browse bargains.

    Recommendations
Premium brown bread - best bread ive ever tasted (about 57p)
    Premuim Coleslaw
Bread Rolls (fresh from local bakery)
All meat especially italian ham, gammon
Fresh and frozen pizzas are lovely and a bargain
    All Yoghurts
Chocolate bars for packups - Wacko bars, Copy penguins
Copy I cant believe its not butter
Pinot Grigio Wine (think from Hungary) (about £2.70 a bottle) - not tried beer yet
    Lemonade nice.
Baked beans fussy daughter only previously liked Heinz also likes these.
Crisps again fussy daughter likes these as much as Walkers.
    Tortilla Chips and dips
All cereal especially Shreddies, Corn flakes, Weetabix, Berry flakes
Icecreams especially solero copies (I was dubious about trying these but were great)
    Chocolate gateaux are wonderful

Items we have been disappointed with
Washing up liquid - very weak
Frozen meat slices (Ashdale) beef and lamb - not nice
Fruit - but you have to suss out when this is delivered to get this at its best

    Health warning:

Just shaved with an ALDI disposable razor.
Left me looking like I had an argument with a John Deere harvester in a corn field.

Stick to the three blade, that one is ok.

now im livin in my own flat im having to buy stuff i didnt need before like cleaning stuff and washing up liquid. i cant beleive i didnt discover aldi before. its saving me a fortune!!! any recommendations for alcoholic drinks?? from either store?

If you like Pils I can highly recommend Bergadler at 4.99 from Lidl.
They are really quite large bottles and at the moment they are £1 off for a 6 pack (3.99 = 66.5p per bottle).
Their cider is pretty good too.

Recently tried Redstone Valley Shiraz-Cabernet wine box from Lidl, we thought it was going to be awful, but as we're trying to economise and it was only £8.99 for 3 litres, we gave it a go. It turned out to be really lovely, so much so, we're on our second box......not so much of a saving as it is too easy to drink!!!!!

This week they have got floor-standing Tefal electric fans for £19.99. Just got one for the bedroom, in the hope that I can get some sleep at last, and it's fantastic - really quiet.
