Hi Shaz,I am ok as far as depression is concerned seem to be on an even keel for now long may it last!I was in Blackpool last weekend to ,went for the weekend with a workmate. We did not get to the pleasure beach as i am not over keen on rides. We did go in the Tower and saw the circus which was very good, also went to the waxworks and saw the legend show which was great, also as you know the weather was good.Only been in work three days this week but it still feels like a week i have caught Miro's cold so glad it is Friday today
  • Anni's furry sister woke me up really early today. Still having hassle finding a flat, have told psycho flatmate not to speak to me as the idiot tried to make out I was the unreasonable one after the incident the other day.

Tonight is the monthly meeting of the cat shelter volunteers, looking forward to this as it's the first one I've been to.

Gem, you would love the weather here. Not that we don't get colds, but at least we enjoy plenty of sun. Today is pretty warm, I would guess high seventies.
  • That cat is OBSESSED with cotton buds, she keeps pulling them out of the drawer ...
  • Off to the meeting soon, and then to see a room. Katie, hope you had a good lunch, and Gem, that your cold gets better soon.

Yes you are right i would love your weather we have had no summer here at all and it will soon be winter.Have you always lived over there and are you near the coast?
  • That's one of the main reasons why I left - I couldn't stand the thought of another English winter! Or summer, come to that. I'm in Barcelona, so on the coast, been here for 1.5 years and wouldn't go back to the UK! Well and truly settled here.
  • 'Nee-how'* everybody!

Please accept my apologies for my absence; I've been, well, distracted. You see, CB2 has, for months now, had an ACM (Adopted Cheeky Monkey) in residence with her!

This is a remarkable thread!.....I offer a freebie on it...and as a result, I receive a real-life 'daughter'! How amazing is that?! Especially if, like me, you've been happily child-free all your life.

I know many of you have trust issues; you have been hurt, abused and/or betrayed in the past and vow never to trust again. You find it hard or impossible to accept genuine free gifts; perhaps you feel worthess and that you don't deserve kindness.

Now I have a bundle of fun who pounces on me whilst I'm snoozing, demands hugs, and gets me taking part in 'exhilarating' activities I last did 30 or 40 years ago!

May I encourage you therefore, if your childhood has been carp, to ask for the help you need, maybe find someone who can give you the love and support you missed out on as a child. It's never too late to have a substitute experience!

Talking of 'never too late', my DH, aged 56, over the last 3 months has gained his Ph.D degree, published papers, presented his work at an international conference in San Diego (ACM calls it 'Sandy Igloo'!) and is now a university lecturer in Shanghai (ACM calls it 'Shaghai!'). Retirement is not on the agenda!
    * 'Nee-how' is Chinese for 'Hi there!'

I mention this to encourage those of you who feel there's no future for you. My DH has patiently waited and worked for over 30 years to do this! This is what my DH would say to those of you who have lost hope:-
    Never give up!
    Perseverence!
    Determination!
    You can do it!
Put your backbone where your wishbone is!

Life is not easy for young people nowadays especially and jobs are hard to find. May I tell you, then, that the Chinese regard British universities as the best in the world; there are sparkling plentiful opportunities for UK graduates there!
Chinese academic salaries are about the same as UK but the cost of living there is about 25% that of here; beer is 20p a pint, cigarettes way less than £1 a pack etc etc....so DH is one happy bunny!

So far, I've taken my ACM with us to USA, Mexico, France and Italy; China and Hong Kong are next on the agenda!

    Message to Tiff!....

Do you remember rashly inviting CB2 to your home? Well, now I have someone else who wants to meet the Tiffster! You are gonna be getting '2 for the price of 1'! CB2 and her ACM are comin' up the M1 to knock on your door and give you real-life hugs! So drop me an email or PM hun, let us know when it suits and we'll be seein' ya sooooon....

    Take care everyone
