I feel sooo down today after what happen this morning that I just want to break down in tears and cry my heart out. But I'm fighting very very hard not too, I spent all of 2007 like that and I really thought things were getting better this year.

A few months ago both me and my son joined a karate club, for him to give him confidence and me to start re-building my life again. Now the teacher is very short tempered and I've seen almost ever lesson that he handles the kids like a sack of potatoes, they are only 4 and 5 years old so of course at that age they don't always listen, but to man-handle kids like that really shocks me. Every lesson he does it to some kid or other, but last week he dangled my son by his belt and I said nothing. Again today he took him by the collar so I told him there and then not to handle my son that way. Some parents agreed others thought it was nothing. After the lesson the teacher made a big speech about if you have a problem don't tell him during the lesson in front of everyone etc. etc.

I explained to him i wanted him to understand what he did was wrong and because of his temper wanted other parents around to witness, well he totally lost it, told me to f off out of his f-ing club, not to tell him how to do his job and get the f out of here.

Deep down i know it's him who is in the wrong but why do I feel so crap and I also didn,t get to do my lesson. It feels as though I've gone backwards and lost everything I've spent the last 3 months building.

My son really enjoys the lessons, he is only 4 so of course can't understand why as parents we are so worried now about him carrying on as well.

Oh god I want the tears to come, but I won't let them for the sake of my son, he saw enough bad things last year for it to all start again.

Why are people so mean in this world?
  • Awww hun hugs!

You did the right thing! is there not another karate club near by? that you could take him to instead? its better you saying something than leaving it if your not comfortable.

hey thanks, but it's worse I'm a man, my wife is also v v down about this so can't really talk to her.

We already looked at another club which i like but my son wants to stay where he is. Plus it's the money, we've paid for a year and no way is this guy going to give anything back.
  • Maybe you should go next time and speak to some of the other parents and all move to the other club if they aren't happy with the way this bloke is treating the kids. How long have you been going? Is it a community run thing? perhaps you could speak to your local council about it.

Not knocking taking up karate but Its a common misconception that learning martial arts gives you confidence
The teacher is probably a good example in that from what you say he feels the need to show off.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

On the contrary - I think you are a hero - you are the one who stood up to him. If I had a child there and couldn't watch, I'd be chuffed there was another parent who took the iniative.

He was unprofessional and his language appalling. Up his!

Don't forget your son is 4, 4 year old's have no sense of time. Just take him to something new and he'll adapt - best bit about being achild.

I've just had a chat to my best friend, feeling a bit brighter tonight and will soldier on:rotfl:

it's already on my mind to talk to the council because as you say it's community run and he is getting the sports hall for free.

Trouble is this guy is very unstable but with over 20 years karate experience he could do some real damage and I'm not scared to say yes I'm v v scared of him.

you are very correct, I wanted my son to learn discipline and respect however with this teacher he will get none of that.

This guy knows physically no one can touch him so he is very arrogant, his speech after the class was it's my club, I do as I want.

Thanks every1 feeling a bit better now and even if it means a few tears from my son for awhile i think in the long run it will be better we stop at this club.
