i dont have too many quams about the meat. Value mince has been ok for chucking in a bolognaise. Chicken breasts are fine and large drumsticks ok for slow cooker.

I also dont mind the squash, fizzy lemonade or concentrate juices.

Dont buy loo roll......HATE it. Also tend to stick to branded washing and toiletry stuff.

All tinned stuff, biscuits, cakes etc are great. Love the beans and tomatos. Also, good for fresh fruit and veg. Just recently got a bag of value peppers and had 5 red and 1 yellow in it for about 98p.

I always use the Value/Smartprice flour and I've never found weevils in it?? I just fold the top of the bag over.

I made a bold move and bought Sainsburys own brand teabags for about 34p and guess what? They were fine! I've probably spent a bloody fortune over the years buying branded teabags when these would have sufficed.

    So:

    Teabags
    Kitchen Roll
    Cat Litter
    Baked Beans
    Yoghurt
    Pasta
    Porridge
    Bubble Bath (20p!)
    Noodles (8p!)
    Orange Juice
Asda's Diet Coke with lemon (44p and I drink loads!)

I would not, however, buy any sort of 'lady goods' which are own brand as it's the one thing I'm not willing to gamble with!!! However, Boots, I'm more than happy to save cash by buying their own brand items.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

I have yet to find a weevil in my value flour and the cakes etc taste every bit as good. If you close it tightly between uses it is fine!

Aha, but how long do you have your flour lying around for? I am rubbish at baking and so the flour tends to be there for a good while. You're right about the closing tightly though, the flour in the container is usually fine, it's the stuff left in the packet that gets the weevils.

I do put in lots of bay leaves in and around the flour, as that's supposed to ward off the creepy-crawlies, but I had to chuck out some flour the other day because it was crawling.

I suppose, now I'm a DFW, I should be doing more baking.

Squeamish men might want to skip this post. :D

I was very surprised to find that Sainsburys Basics panty liners (23p for 30) are quite good. Use for those don't-need-too-much-protection-but-just-in-case days.

When I'd tried cheap ones before (Tesco's I think), the sticky-back part would stay behind when I removed the liner, but the Sainsburys ones hold together very well.
  • We will try anything value just to compare (well except mince) we find the tescos value chicken breast pieces great for curry's, stews etc we've never had any problems with them and I'm very funny about meat. The tin foil is always ok for lining baking tray when cooking. I buy heaps of value tinned tomatoes, tuna chunks (not flakes!) tinned veg, pasta, rice, spaghetti. Sometimes the value stuf really surprises me on the quality. I say its always worth a try once!
    Just trying to be me.....
