I buy
chopped tomatoes
tomato ketchup (I use it mostly in cooking instead of puree)
orange juice
baked beans
Big bottles of lemonade (great for giving cheap white wine the 'spritzer' treatment
chicken breasts (fresh and frozen)
eggs (although I buy free range when I can afford to)
tuna
milk
sweetcorn
kidney beans
bleach
black bin bags
bourbons
digestives
flour
Aftersun (it's great!)
cheese
sun tan cream
I don't buy
teabags - they smell of ashtrays
sausages
mince - dear god, the fat percentage
washing up liquid - makes my hands sore
coffee - OH will only drink nescafe and I don't drink coffee
Bought in the past - ok, but would only buy in a financial emergency!
squash
washing powder
loo roll
pasta
rice
My ex feeds the dog on Value chicken. He buys the frozen thighs and drumsticks and roasts and pulls the meat off for him.
I've probably tried most things over the years.

i buy...
....value orange juice, fine for smoothies and general drinking , perfect for kids with
.....value lemonade,
..... value chopped tomatoes, altho you do get more tomato ends per tin!
..... tuna chunks perfectly okay for tuna mayo sandwiches, not to be mistaken for tuna flakes (bleugh).
..... mayonnaise. perfectly acceptable for adding to said tuna!
..... onions, small but perfectly acceptable
..... custard, okay for kids with
..... value swiss roll!
..... custard cream/bourbons/chocolate digestives
..... cat litter. perfectly good, as good as any of the fullers earth type and better than that orange grit stuff....
things i don't buy... loo roll, washing up liquid, soap powder, bleach, squash, cola is just wrong!!!!!!!! .....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
I wouldn't buy:
Toilettries
Toilet roll
Washing powder/liquid
Meat
Sauces like tomato sauce and brown sauce
think thats about it!
Burp x0 -
I make my own value swiss roll lol with value mixed fruit jam - lovely warm with value ice cream and from start to eating done in ten minutes flat!0

I agree with those who said they'd avoid value squash (makes my teeth feel funny), tea bags, deodorant and washing up liquid. Washing powder isn't that great either but I buy 'Easy' brand from Home Bargains (69p for box, about the same for big bottle of fabric conditioner) and it's fine. Do buy either value toilet roll or whatever the pound shop's got - quite often 6 rolls for £1 which isn't bad, usually better quality than the value stuff.
I think Sainsbury's Basics range is pretty good - especially the cheeses, they have mozarella and brie I think.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
We get value everything except frozen and toiletries. I actually like somerfield's value apple and blackcurrant squash. I'd rather not have the toilet roll because I end up using more of it but bf's in charge of the supermarket shopping and he insists on it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I have yet to find a weevil in my value flour and the cakes etc taste every bit as good. If you close it tightly between uses it is fine!peaceandfreedom wrote: »Good meat is important to me as well, so I don't buy any meat at the supermarket, with the exception of sliced ham. All the rest is from our local butcher. Not cheap, but it's an area I won't compromise on, there is such a difference in taste and quality. To economise, I buy less of it and try to have more veggie meals. DH though, doesn't consider a meal to be a meal unless it has a vast hunk of meat in it!
Value stuff I've bought and liked so far (I'm new to all this
):
loo roll - surprisingly good considering it's so much cheaper
biscuits - junk might as well be cheap junk (though Lidl is best for 'goodies')
tinned tomatoes - can't tell any difference between those and dearer brands
kitchen towel - the cheaper the better
choc ices - the kids haven't complained
Value stuff I'm not so keen on:
flour - gets those weevils in very quickly
spaghetti/pasta - just not so nice and pasta is cheap anywayErmutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
