Central heating not working :(

I recently moved into a new house.

I tried to put the heating on but the central heating will not heat up.

The boiler is a Baxi boiler and the water heats up and it does sound like it is working but the central heating wont come on.

Please can anyone give advice?

Thanks

Pump not working? Air in radiators?

Open the air vents with a radiator vent key and run until water comes out - with system off obviously. Otherwise you must find the pump and see whether it is running. Do you have a room thermostat and is it set high? [Whack it up to max to investigate]. Is you timer progammer set to Hot Water only?

    Hi, thanks for the advice.

Do i just open the individual radiators and let the water come out of them?

Yes there is a room thermostat and i have put that to high.

I have set it to both water and heating.

Where do i find the pump?

I am going there today so will find out the make and let you know.

    Thanks.

I had a similar problem and have no experience of boilers and gas. a friend recommended that i get a boiler engineer/plumber thru our local check a trade as they are only included on other people's rccomendation. Managed to get a superb guy who got everything fixed/serviced up and running for £50. Good luck.
  • Hi can anyone help me please????

My boiler is only a couple of years old and has recently started playing up. if i have the heating on the hot water doesnt work and it cuts the heating off and it wont come back on for a couple of hours. also it has started taking a long time for the water to get hot even when the heating is not on and sometimes doesnt work at all.

I have had two plumbers look at it and they cant seem to find the problem anyone any ideas as what this could be and im haveing a baby in a few months and need it fixed.
  • Well it helps if you state make and model of boiler.

There is a valve that opens to let hot flow from th boiler to the radiators.

    1. Valve can be stuck, can be dead motor dead
    2. Timer maybe faulty, not sending LIVE to drive the motor.
    3. Thermostat maybe faulty, not allowing the LIVE to pass.

The simplest thing to check is to see if there is LIVE mains voltage on the motor input: BROWN wire. Open the wiring centre, test using a mains tester screwdriver.

Yes, I agree, get a plumber.
  • I would of thought that's fixed by now, It broke in 2008.
I asked about the boiler from samabanks1 post.
