Well thumbs up for Lush Caca. It's proven to be great for my hair & I'm well pleased. Bit of a nitemare applying the stuff, but the results are well worth it :j0

Glad you like it devil: I love it! :T
So much better than those nasty chemical things, and no messier as far as I'm concerned!
Yes, as someone already said, Lush do know:We admit it; caca is French for 'poo'. Why did we name our four beautiful henna hair colours 'poo'? We wanted to make the point that there are no nasty chemicals in them; they are 100% natural, lovely, safe ingredients so you can use them on your pretty heads as often as you like, building up a bright, shiny colour, without absolutely no risk at all. It may be a bit of extra bother - OK, it's definitely a bit of extra bother - but it's worth the effort, and actually it's quite a laugh to wear squidgy henna covered with Clingfilm for a couple of hours. We have to suffer for our art sometimes, don't we, dears?
I've got 'long bob-length' hair and use 2 squares, which I just 'slice' on the chopping board, like cutting cheese or something: it crumbles easily. Then I just chuck it in a glass bowl and pour 'recently boiled' (not boiling) hot water on it. I just got the consistency right last time, previously using too much water making the mixture too runny and therefore making more mess than necessary when applying. It only needs enough coverage to be able to mix it into a paste-like consistency. I usually then part my hair on the top and brush the 'poo' carefully around my hairline and fringe area, covering well where the silver bits are with one of those hairdresser-type flat brushes (after smearing all around my hairline and ears with vaseline) then just slap on the remaining mixture all over. I then cover in clingfilm and leave for anything from 2-6 hours. I left it overnight once, but had a slightly itchy scalp in the morning, so probably a bad idea for anyone with sensitive skin/scalp.
I wash and scrub my hands thoroughly, put a headscarf on, and just get on with my day for a few hours. I actually really like the smell too, which makes me quite unusual I think...
It is a bit of a pain to get out, but I just shower it over the bath till all the 'grit' has gone, then give it a good shampoo and condition as usual. It ends up looking natural (apart from the copper bits perhaps.. ) and nice and shiny.
I read about the coffee thing somewhere else. I wonder what can be added for a touch more red....
EDIT: I've just been wandering around the Lush site, and am surprised to see that the Lush Reincarnate shampoo block contains SLS in it...... :eek:0 -
I think henna is great but really messy. If you have not used it before, make sure you have plenty or rubber gloves, old towels and t-shirts to wear and protect everything. be very patient with washing out etc and washing your bathroom afterwards!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I love lush cacas, I get my other half to apply it for me, lol! He grates it and gets a good consistancy. Also makes the bath easier to clean if you put a little bit of water with washing up liquid in while you rinse, stops it all sticking to the bath.
Re SLS, Lush have done a lot of research into it and they think it is a safe synthetic, I know some people have reactions to it same as most things, I value their opinion - i've been on a factory trip so have spoken to some of the people who create the products - there is lots about it on the forum too0 -
I have used real henna powder for the last 12 years. Still absolutely delighted with it, have beautiful, healthy, shiny hair. I don't know what the contents are in the lush henna stuff, but I have been told by various hairdressers and have read in various articles that you need to be extremely careful when using henna. Because you hair absorbs henna, it might react to chemicals like perming stuff and hair colours, and a nasty reaction could ruin your hair. If you decide to change style/colour, get advice first.0

Natural henna is bright orange, any other colours in the henna range will have some % of hair colour in it to produce the required colour.
Henna was traditionally used in Middle Eastern/Indian countries as a cooling agent for the skin on their head/palms of feet & hand, also to decorate their hands/feet during weddings!.
Most people do use coffee, but i have heard on the grape-vine recently, they are using tea!.No one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
I was informed that henna ascts like a varnish on the hair; coating it as apposed to penetrating the hair shaft (as with regualr hair dyes).
I kinda like the smell, but it does give me a bit of a sickly headache.
I recently topped up the color & used 2 square brun to 1 square of the noir. I also added a couple of tablespoons of coffee (decaff may I add). Not sure if the coffee made much of a difference tho'. Didn't alter the smell much either lol.
I do fancy trying Lush solid shampoos & the conditioner bar they have, but, I've been informed, via email from Lush mailorder, only the Lush shops offer any samples. However, I don't live close to a shop, so have been purchasing items via their website.
If anyone can recommend their shampoos, I might give em a go regardless. Could always resell on ebay0
