LUSH Caca hair colour

Just wondering if anyone has used this henna hair dye from LUSH.

I've just bought caca brun and the assistant also gave me a cube of caca noir as I'm looking to have dark brown hair.

Any stories, or advice for me??

I used it once and found it wasn't any good for covering my grey hair.
  • Not looking to cover grey hair, but thanks for the advice :)

Not sure about the brown but my mum uses Henna and tried their red. She said it was OK but I abit of a pain to use. She misses the body shop's charasmatic copper. She has 50% grey and finds henna covers it if you leave it on a few hours:D

It's fairly easy - but the amount of henna to cook up depends on the amount of hair you have. I'd use two parts brown to one part black for dark brown hair, and my hair is chin length and I use one to two squares.

Heat a pan of water and balance a glass bowl on it. Put your henna in the bowl, add some water to the henna and mix and poke it. It'll take a while and be a pain in the butt. You want it to be less than runny but more than solid. Then, let it cool for a little while. Cover everything nearby with dark towels, Vaseline your ears and hair line (really, don't miss this step) and pull on your gloves. Apply the henna to your hair in strips of maybe 2-3cm. It's easier if you start at the back and work forwards. When you're finished, take big handfuls of the remaining henna and squidge it all on. Stick your hair to your head and wrap your hair in cling film so you can move around without shedding henna chunks. Clean up the horrible mess and soak your bowl so it doesn't end up caca brown.

You can leave it for 45 minutes or 6+ hours. I tend to leave it on longer, up to eight hours. Rinse it out then wash and condition your hair. Whatever you do, don't ever use the Lush H'suan Hen Hwah conditioner after you've hennaed or otherwise dyed your hair. It can strip out your dye.

I used to use Caca Marron, then switched to Caca Rouge for a while. However, after a time neither covered the grey very well so I've had to change to something a bit stronger.

Would highly recommend it though as it really conditioned my hair and left it shiny for ages. You'll probably need to rinse it for ages as the 'bits' in it seem to stick to your hair quite well....oh yes, and cover the bathroom up unless you want to have different coloured splodges on your paintwork and floor!

  • I've never used it before and am trying to escape chemical dyes for a while. So, I rekon I'll be sat in the house for 6+ hours hoping no one comes to the front door. :p

You can wrap a towel over your cling film helmet and pretend you've just washed your hair.

Although I tend to use hair dyeing days as an excuse to pile on face masks, drink a glass or two of wine and refuse to be in the company of anyone.
