You can wrap a towel over your cling film helmet and pretend you've just washed your hair.

Although I tend to use hair dyeing days as an excuse to pile on face masks, drink a glass or two of wine and refuse to be in the company of anyone.

All great and very welcomed advice

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I've used it lots over the past few years - have a sensitive scalp so can't use chemical dyes. I tend to just make it up in a bowl with hot (not boiling) water and cover with a plate till it mushes down - about 10 mins. It helps to preheat the bowl as well. My biggest problem is applying it. I have an old pair of rubber gloves I use which are a lot tigher than the ones they give you and so are easier to use. I leave it on for as long as I can be bothered, certainly 3 hours and more if I can. I tend to use the time to do housework though. Then I rinse it off and apply deep conditioner (boots henna is nice) and get into the bath and let it soak in. Finally I wash my hair with shampoo. Which I know is backwards but my hair is lovely and soft and shiney afterwards. I have recently noticed my first grey hair so I will post back and tell you how I find it for covering this.

It is a bit messy and a bit of a faff but is much kinder to your scalp, your hair and the environment.

Be sure and wear old clothes and keep an eye on yourself. I find that stray streams of liquid flow onto my face if I get warm and suddenly you look at yourself in the mirror and it looks like you're in a horror movie. Be sure and check yourself before answering the door :)

Oh and if you have an old wooly hat you can even do the garden.

PS you can hold a hot water bottle on your heaad to heat it up and get it to develop faster but you do feel a bit of a twit..
  • Well, it's certainly a nitemare to wash out. Don't know the end color result yet, as I'm sat with Redken Butter Treat on my hair.

Depending on color and whether the color is long lasting, will dictate whether I use this product again.

When I think of it this is why I've always done the conditioner afterwards, helps get rid of the last few bits. My advice too, now that I remember it :) is to put a towel over your pillow till you next wash your hair, you don't ever get rid of all the little bits first time :)

have been meaning to do mine since I got a haircut three weeks ago :o

Knowing Lush, they already know ;)
lol, they certainly do, I love the names they give their products :D

my daughter uses their henna on her long hair, mostly caca brun, a couple of squares of noir & some ground coffee*
it is a bit more time-consuming & fiddly to apply (& remove ) than conventional dyes, but the results & condition are lovely :)

    * she works part-time for Lush & went on a henna training session & they advised adding the coffee to get a darker richer brown

she also says that the results get better the more you use it

OP, hope your hair turns out nicely :)
