Worth a search on Rightmove in stoke on trent and areas of liverpool.

The durham coast/ teeside used to be a cheap spot too.

In a more helpful vein have you looked into auctions ?
  • There were some cheap flats in Barrow in Furness on here the other day. £38,000.

There's also such as Longsight or Moss Side in Manchester. A colourful area with free entertainment night and day.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
  • There are some bargains in Yorkshire at the moment (infact I have a three bed "bargain" on the market at the moment!) However you will find that up North a lower value Freehold property can be difficult to find, as most of the land was snapped up in the mining days and is Leasehold. Having said that the Leases are usually 900 years plus and at most £50 a year. Good luck with your search. ;)
  • Hull, Grimsby, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Doncaster all have cheap areas but I suspect the cheapest are in areas that have been flooded. If the flood defences are sorted out, then they could be future bargains, but getting a mortgage on them just now may be difficult.

Limetrees Close in Middlesbrough has several modern houses for sale around £20,000:

Recently there was a burned out house in the same road on Rightmove for £15,000.

Alternatively this house is up for auction in Burnley with a guide price of £10,000:

Looks like you would have quiet neighbours.
