Tesco Rant

hi,
I think we need to get things in perspective..
Tesco were in the wrong re the mayonaise - re misleading advertising, and this should be reported to Trading Standards. Human error probably is responsible as the pricing clerk would have seen the same price tag and not bothered to change without checking the weight of the item
Decrease in sizes- this is happening across the board in all areas, manfuacturers have margins to protect / profit to make and after so long of holding prices they face either increase the price or decrease the size, with Chinese labour charges increasing (ok the sector I know about is not food), increase in oil prices (this affects all areas, ie plastic for packaging, diesel to harvest crops etc as well as cost of transport). This is the start of this, and unfortunately will continue. Some of the prodcuts I purchase have seen 100% increase since the start of the year, we have held prices for as long as we could - but eventually they either go up or pack size down
The supermarkets are trying to all prove they are the cheapest for publicity, when faced with increased prices (although they often screw the manufacturer / producer down the the last penny)0 -
I went to Morrisons the other day and noticed a similar thing. They appear to be in the process of downsizing their own brand bags of sweets and chocolate peanuts etc from 227g (half a pound) to 200g (whilst keeping the price the same, naturally).
About half the bags out on display were still 227g and half were the new 200g size, but guess what.... ALL the shelf edge labels still said 227g and underneath said 30p per 100g when by my calculation they should actually have said 34.5p per 100g.
And the weight is printed on the BACK of the bag, so most customers would be completely hoodwinked.
I've told Trading Standards but I know from past experience they won't do a thing about it. These supermarkets are getting away with murder.0 -
I had been buying Dole pineapple Rings (don't know weight but there were about 5-6 rings in a tin) for 26p (or 28p) a can. When I went in last week I noticed that they were on Special Offer 2 tins for 70p and the tins were now priced at 49p.
Hmmm I bought Tesco Own ones for 33p.
You've got to keep an eye on things!.....0 -

It really does get on my nerves...times are hard for US, yet THEY have these obscene profit margins and then have the bloody gall to do this to those of us who are keeping them in business. I'd actually rather go elsewhere but the local shops have all been forced out by these monster stores (not just Tesco).
They justify this with 'junk' food by saying their cutting the sizes of these products to encourage people to not eat as much of it and to try to cut obesity levels
they're having a larf aren't they:rotfl:Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

i noticed a ciouple of years ago that crates of lager were coming in smaller packs eg stella used top come in as crates of 24 bottles but they changed to crates of 20 bottles, same with carlsberg as well,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

I used to buy Tescos value kichen roll 4 x rolls for 99p then I went in a few months ago and couldnt find it, asked CS- it has been replaced with just Tescos own ( not value). Repackaged containing just 2 rolls for the same price.
I purchased a pack and guess what! they are exactly the same as the previous value pack rolls that I had been buying for some time.
So repackaged kichen Roll 100% mark up in price within a couple of weeks , what a con. I wont buy them now in principle and dont feel guilty anymore using MOC's etc in Tescos.
Pineapple.
how do you know its the same product,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
A 'few' years ago I used to work for a major UK supermarket and we used to have to check stuff like this. Each day we had to take some stuff from the shelves to be weighed to ensure that it weighed the same - or more than - the weight on the packet. It was illegal to sell a packet of mince that was weight 250g if it only had 245g in and if it was 'spot checked' by the authorities and caught there were heavy fines.
I commented on this the other day, no-one seems to care anymore. The get around pricing errors by the 'invitation to treat' rule they have now and can have what they like on the shelf but can charge what they want without comeback.
I budget and do not want to pay more than the price I have been quoted but the co-op have become a nightmare and each time I go in there something is the wrong price for me or another customer.0 -
When a product changes in size(up or down) the labels are sent from head office to update the SEL.But tesco are so tight they dont employ enough people to put them out hence why people are finding items are going down in size and the SEL is out of date.
Ive worked for tesco for 4 1/2 years now.
I have my own aisle to fill and i personally make sure all the labels are up to date and display the correct price and size. I get the price integrity(labels) lady to update them for me.
You would be amazed at the variation in the price of some stuff its riddiculous.
Tesco value Sausages
48p then 16p then £1.21 then 58p and now 54p all within the space of 2 weeks!
Tesco Lean mince this time last year was 2 for £4.
Now its 2 for £5.
Other products get smaller bit by bit so if you dont know what your looking for you wouldnt realise your getting less.
They say they are keeping prices low but at the same time the portions are getting smaller.
Its one big con. Its like they are tricking you into thinking you are getting a bargain whereas really your not.0 -
there are a lot of people whom must have been walking round all supermarkets and shops with their eyes colsed over the last few years
product downsizing has been happening for along time and is mainly been carried out by the big manafacturers such as Cadburys or Carlsberg etc.
Ask yourselves when you have a bar of chocolate, especially a twirl how tiny is it now in comparisson to what they were a few years ago?
Like another reader said have you not noticed now the size changes in beer, Strongbow,John Smiths, Fosters are all 15pk not 18pks but the price have stayed the same. So at xmas when its 3 for £20 you pay the same as you did just over a year ago and get 9 cans less not good!!!!!!!!!
This is manafacturers way of increasing profit or consolidating the increase in the costs of production which unfortunately they have decided to pass in to us the consumers!!!!!
In question to the £per kg or ml on SEL'S I am led to believe that these are to be used as a guidline only!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
