Details of more boxes and TVs likely to stop working at changeover.

    Half way down page http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/content/articles/2008/08/20/county_breakfast_info_feature.shtml
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • I like CitySlicker and oscar1 also extracted a replacement from Daewoo .

    Just to deal with some comments from people who don't fully understand the problem !! one wonders why they made a comment in the first place }

Most of the units did not have a default switch so we were unable to stop the unit self destruction.

The units were sold as ' Fully DVB-T Compliant ' but if that was true the units would be still working today.

It all hinges on a computer buffer that was a cheaper version than the standard required.

Standards are Standards Daewoo cant ' pick and mix ' they made a Commercial decision not to comply with the DVB-T Standards so they cant complain if Customers jump all over them .

The vast majority would not have a clue and assume it was a electrical fault which was not helped by the split NIT being rolled out in the UK - it was only when it hit London was it covered by some newspapers and by that time most would have ended up in Garbage Dumps.

In my case I was told near the end of July that it had nothing to do with Daewoo.

On the 31 st of July 2008 in response to my e-mail explaining that with my background !! I used to design Computer Chips } I knew exactly why the buffer was overloaded they then offered a small discount .

During August though a series of e-mails I did supply enough information to keep up the pressure and I proved that for a few pennies more they would have ended up with a fully compliant DVB-T unit and on threat I was going to sue they gave in .

late August I received the offer of a replacement and so did the Daewoo Dozen !! August/early September } - at that time there was no demand for a receipt.

Once our claims were processed Daewoo started imposing more and more conditions so the Goal posts move all the time.

We don't have anything to gain as our claims were sorted - its the people who came after us that the U Turn has hit the worst.

At most I estimate its only a few hundred !! who have kept their units } so really it does not make Business sense for them to impose their stricter Conditions as after all they were not in force August/early September.

I have been helping BBC Watchdog investigate this story and its clear that Daewoo has been shifting the goalposts ' each Month '

My offer e-mail did not ask when/where I bought it nor were they interested in a receipt at all.

That was in place for a few of us but when more and more claims came in
Daewoo then started asking for more information.

    SERIAL/LOT NUMBER:
    DATE OF PURCHASE:
    PLACE OF PURCHASE:
COPY OF RECEIPT OF PURCHASE( if not available a scanned photo of the product ):

if you contact Daewoo today they will demand

    SERIAL/LOT NUMBER:
    DATE OF PURCHASE:
    PLACE OF PURCHASE:
    COPY OF RECEIPT OF PURCHASE

If you cant supply all the details above then you are told you cant have a replacement.

I know someone who phoned up Daewoo's Commercial Manager and he denied that there was a U Turn in policy . He stated that Daewoo were trying to help to replace genuine units. He stated that each case was considered on its own merits including asking for proof of purchase.

I also know someone who does not have receipt but he filled in a guarantee form and it was posted to Daewoo but Daewoo now claim ' they don't keep them after a few years ' which is a bit strange when they expect Customers to keep receipts longer than that.

These people on my request have also written to watchdog - So the case is building against Daewoo and if Watchdog take it up they have all the proof they need to prove that Daewoo did in fact make a massive U Turn so its pure double standards.

Please appreciate I don't have axe to grind because I have already received a replacement a excellent Daewoo DSD9503TFPB !! for £ 15 } but it really gets to me that other Daewoo Customers are having to jump over so many extra hurdles which I and others !! the Daewoo Dozen } did not have to jump.

It is a pure scandal how Daewoo is treating current Claimants as very few can find a receipt four years after purchase.

All the relevant documents !! from me and others } are with BBC Watchdog and some of the losers who cant find their receipt have confirmed to Watchdog that they are willing to be filmed.

If Daewoo had requested a receipt ' from everyone ' then it would not be a big story but its Daewoo changing the goal posts three times in as many months which is the story.

A Watchdog researcher will call me when they plan to slot it in so will give you some advance notice when they do.
  • I noticed last Monday Watchdog featured this story and also commented on reports some internet forum users have posted on their successes (I'm not going to be modest for once and take full credit for this - I haven't seen anyone who received a replacement before I got on the case! :) )

Do remember though it wasn't without hassle I got a replacement. I had to threaten a journalist, taking a court case and quoting DVB compliant notices. I urge everyone with a box that the split NIT has caused a problem to keep on for the principle, consumers are the bread and butter of companies like Daewoo and all the other mass electronic companies and they need to remember if they produce a product it cannot stop working because of a design fault and they'll get away with it. Everyone should take a stand.

We were the lucky ones I started jumping on them late July when the problem hit London and at no point in time did they ask for a receipt .

Daewoo are currently claiming they have found sellers on EBAY who are cashing in hence why they started asking for receipts - which sounds fair enough except for one small detail.

    look at

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38.l1313&_nkw=Daewoo+DS608P&_sacat=See-All-Categories

this guy has ten to sell at £ 119.99 + £ 9.99 postage so £ 129.98 in total.
So would you buy a DAEWOO DS608P at £ 129.98 just to exchange it with Daewoo for a cheaper model ?

    I can buy a Daewoo DSD9503T !! Personal Video Recorder - 160Gb } at £ 80 from the CO-OP

    http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=DAE-DVR-DSD9503T-S

So anyone who tried the replacement dodge would be far cheaper just to buy from the CO-OP and skipping Daewoo completely and be £ 50 better off.
Daewoo cant be allowed to make these claims unchallenged.

Its dead simple they did not build the units to the correct standard so ‘ you don’t have to prove anything ‘

they will have a very good idea which serial numbers went to each location so if you bought your Daewoo in Cornwall then their records will be able to verify this by the serial number.

    —————————-

    Its true if from day one they asked for a receipt then that would be a different matter but we know !! and we can prove this }

there is a good dozen who received replacements without showing any proof and then there was a good dozen more who received replacements after sending photo proof.

Clearly Daewoo is changing the conditions when they like but I know for a fact they are claiming everyone is being treated exactly the same but I know that is a lie otherwise why did they send me a Daewoo DSD9503T for £ 15 without seeing any receipt ?

As time goes on they are shifting the goal posts to suit themselves.
This is not a wise move as how many of us !! who have already received a replacement } will be willing to buy Daewoo again after all the hassle they have caused others ?

    ————- A message to Daewoo ——

    Daewoo its time you accept it was your fault !! or are you claiming your Customers were at fault ? }

You cant change replacement policy when it suits you.

Its totally unreasonable that you are asking for receipts when you did not ask receipts for a estimated two dozen.

All we are asking is to be treated exactly the same as ever other Customer.
Daewoo Customer A sent everything requested last week by e-mail and he was advised that he did not have a valid claim but he would receive a discount price so paying £ 70 for a Freeview/Hard-Disc model number DSD9520

Daewoo Customer B sent everything requested last week by e-mail and he was advised ‘ As a gesture of goodwill, we are willing to offer you a Freeview/Hard-Disc recorder free of charge, model number DSD9520 ‘
By the way Daewoo Customer A and B are real people and that did happen last week !! November }.

two e-mails two identical failed units but one person has to pay £ 70 more than the other.

    Its totally unfair .

and Daewoo before you start shouting your mouth off ‘ I am in regular contact with Daewoo Customer A and B and I have copies of the e-mails ‘ received from you ‘ with dates and times so don’t try and claim this is untrue.
Via the Internet you have been caught out for whatever reason treating some Customers completely different from other Customers.

    You cant do this

Don’t think these Customers are just going to lie down and take this garbage
  • My fear on the ebay seller is this is someone potentially unscrupulous attempting to cash in on the fact that these boxes do work - to an extent. They'll be sold to someone unaware of the problems then the buyer will be told sorry nothing we can do, we didn't sell them as DVB units take it up with Daewoo.

Ebay is responsible in my view for harbouring a lot of very unscrupulous people and doing precious little to protect the consumer. This is an accusation I'm far from being the first to make but until people wake up and stop using them they have market power.

No one is going to buy a unit from that guy at the price he is charging
but the main point still stands Daewoo are Claiming that people are buying units just so they can get a replacment - its a bit like picking up ten pence and dropping a fifty pound note.

if Daewoo's claims were true there would be loads of people selling off their broken units but apart from that joker there is no one else.
  • Apart from the fact that a certain Brain Carson is offerring to buy dead units for £20?? on Digital Spy (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=925691)

RUBBISH - I have in fact helped people to make a genuine claim .

I have already received a replacement so there is no way Daewoo is going to do a second replacement to the same address.

I would advise you ' TO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT '

Do you work for Daewoo and are you upset Customers are claiming their Rights ?
