in Credit cards
hi
just hoping someone can help
i have been paying towards my daughters wedding on my credit card from an estimate of the prices quoted.
i got an interest free c/c which had an opening offer which i have used
so as i was sure i had paid enough and thought i would honly have a small balance to pay. When i went to settle the bill i had actually overpaid by £777 and the company say they cannot refund this back to my card, is this correct?
can i demand the money is refunded to my c/c?
any advice would be welcome.

Do the company acknowledge that you have overpaid?
Did you never confirm the prices given in the estimate?Gone ... or have I?0 -
If they can see that you've overpaid by £777 then yes they can actually initiate a charge back to the card for the sum of money. If they flat out refuse then contact your credit card provider and open a dispute on the item. However you'll need clear documentation that what they've said they will charge doesn't reflect what they've charged onto the card.0

yes they have said that they cannot refund the over payment back onto the c/c.
we were not given an estmate ( as we had not confirmed the menu, buffet prices etc) but the Hotel knew the number of guests and the approximate money we would be spending. They said we could pay for the wedding on C/C installments which is what we did but unfortunately ended up overpaying.0 -
You need to have documentation showing that you have been over charged.
Ie. a receipt from the company showing a value for x amount.
Your credit card statement showing the transaction thats £777 more than whats on the receipt.0 -
You say in your first post that you were given an estimate, and then in the second post that you were not?
Surely you would not agree to pay anything without knowing a definite price?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Are they saying they acknowledge they owe you £777 (or whatever) but can't refund it to your credit card (but will refund it in some other way - cheque, cash, bank trasnfer, etc.) OR are they refusing to acknowledge any overpayment?
Do you have invoices that add up to (e.g.) £1333 and a receipt for your payment of (e.g.) £2000?0 -
Or have you put most of the Wedding on the CC then made payments everynow and then, without looking at the bill and have actually paid more toward the CC than the Bill was actually for?
So say the CC bill was £5k, you've paid £5,777 off it and are now £777 in credit and they won't give it back?0 -

I think this is the problem. If so can you not just spend on the card till the money is gone? Or even spend on behalf of your DD etc and they give you the cash?
But keep in mind that if you spend on a pre-funded credit card, you lose the insurance that normally goes with CC purchases since technically you are spending your own money rather than theirs.0 -
thanks for the replys
it does look like i did not look at this in depth but the hotel didn't give exact quotes and now they are saying that i can't get a refund because after the final figures were in that it is, no refunds!
i estimated the amount from the menu given (and word of mouth from hotel) but changed it and was told it would be about the same (in fact it was slighty cheaper)
the problem was with the pricing for the extras ie seat covers, napkins,dj,balloons which was £825
this was not made clear that they had to be paid by cash which made the bill overpaid by £777
the hotel say they cannot pay the other companies themselves
i have an invoice from the hotel without the extras
i will get the credit card statement with the payments
i did think about paying the guests bills for their over night stay buy feel that i overpaid because i was lead to believe that the extras were to go on the bill
thanks for all your replies0
