Do other countries road systems share the same fate? It just seems strange that there wouldn't be a drainage system in place that has a greater capacity, especially considering our climate.

Apologies, I'm wrong. A river burst its banks. The road has a system to cope with flooding from the water table but not when the contents of a river are added to it.

I have a relative who lives in Whiteabbey, Belfast. Can anyone tell me if that area has been affected please?

Hi there. I was through the Shore Road area of Whiteabbey yesterday and it seemed ok in that area.

Maybe I'm going mad but where's the river near the underpass?

I remember when Molesey/Hampton Court was flooded by the Mole/Ember at this time of year 40 something years ago.

The people in power had 36 hours warning but had all b*gg*r*d off on holiday.
I can still see the water crashing over the top of the weirs - the paddles were still shut to cope with summer conditions, where these rivers poured out into the Thames.

Quite fun for the army, which was sent in to "assist", but not so much of a laugh for those with water up to theit door handles.

However, the Clowney river overflowed into the site and the reason for that is under investigation.

I have never heard of it before

I read that, never heard of that river. Never seen it and go past there basically every day. Maybe I need my eyes checked. I hope there aren't any other landmarks round there I have been blind to for years.

    Just been doing some Googling

Leo Martin Project Director for the Construction Firm HMC paid tribute to his workforce and said: “The decision to realign the Clowney River to the South of the underpass rather than integrate it into the roof slab has been a major factor in allowing us to reprogramme the work to finish this part early.
