I am a VW technician and working in a big VW dealership. Now you can all sit there and slag off the technicians that keep your cars on the road but why is it u bring your cars to us to be repaired and maintained to very high VW standards?.......because you dont know how to do it yourself.FACT
It could be all the horror stories about manufacturers not allowing warrenty work if it has not got a dealer stamp etc.
For my own website I have built a car from wheels up so your completely WRONG, WRONG and WRONG again! For one of my engine conversions a suzuki dealer would not have a f**king clue where to start and people come to me asking advice, take a look.. http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?p=4387
I take my road car to a reputable vw specialist who gives value for money, does a good job and I know actually knows about how VW cars wear and tear. When I explain a fault they say "yes it's this part which needs replaced" then proceeds to do the job justice.
I do all my oils and filters myself because VW engineers have made easy for monkeys not to get it wrong but when it comes to stuff I can frankly not be arsed to do I put it into the reputable garage.
6% of all cars being returned - you should be ashamed!!
As for your £15K computer, yer right it must be the best thing for the job (blinkers)
My car is now got 220,000 miles on the clock and not been in the VW workshop since 103KLets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
Just to update you (I'm the OP), I've had the pump replaced and it appears it was an electrical fault. As this was the second time in recent months I had to book the car in for warranty work, I expressed my concern that the car will shortly be out of warranty and I'm worried about what will go wrong next. I bought a VW largely on the strength of their excellent reputation for reliabilty but this has been severely tested lately. Once my warranty is up, I won't be going back to the expensive VW dealership for such work but instead to a local garage that has been servicing my car since new.0

The reliablility is still there, as MarkSRi said above we are getting 6% (only just over 1% at my dealership) returns. Out of over 500 labour hours worth of work a WEEK that isnt bad by anyones standards. And we have had less than 1 car a month returned for a delivery issue since almost the beginning of the year.Just to update you (I'm the OP), I've had the pump replaced and it appears it was an electrical fault. Why do you say that you wont be going back to 'the expensive VW dealership' once your warrenty is up??? You've had all your problems fixed free of charge, it's been maintained with genuine parts and is backed up by a 2year warrenty on all genuine VW parts. What's expensive about that, other than the hassle you'd get from a non-genuine part 1year and a week old and faulty...it may be cheaper short term but I bet you you pay for stuff more often because of poor quality parts/workmanship. It's like most things, you can pay more for something, get better quality and use out of it, or buy cheap and 'hope' it lasts but not have it do all that you want it to.
Pays your money takes your [strike]chance[/strike] choice

The repairs have been free of charge and I'm greatly relieved about that - no-one expects to have to replace costly parts quite so soon. However, I think you're mistaken about the warranty as they told me that I don't have any warranty whatsoever on these new parts as I did not pay for them. If they fail again beyond expiry of the warranty then I'm on my own. I would like to point out that the garage I use for routine servicing uses genuine VW parts and is authorised to stamp the service schedule. I would not risk the safety and quality of such a vehicle by using inferior parts or an inferior provider, and I'm sure others are doing the same for the same reasons.0

Same for me and all my family!Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
You are correct, the warrenty replaced items are not covered beyond the car's warrenty, but any parts fitted as standard have a 2yr warrenty. The repairs have been free of charge and I'm greatly relieved about that - no-one expects to have to replace costly parts quite so soon. I appreciate what you say about using genuine parts but getting cheap labour to get it fitted, better that than aftermarket stuff! A dealers service stamp still keeps the sell-on price higher though

I missed this thread the first time round, but I've enjoyed reading it this morning. For some reason the above statement reminded me of the wet kipper sketch from Monty Python.
