go in, garages are useless unless you annoy them in person0

I think that's tarring us all with the same brush unnecessarily.
May I ask which dealer it is you're trying to get a call back from?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Fair enough. It may have found the fault but did it tell you which exact switch/sensor/wiring loom was at fault or just 'there's an airbag fault'?! I cant presume that your £30 machine can be anywhere near as specific and accurate as a £15,000 diagnostics machine...no offence
I code reader give out a code, I went online to tdiclub.com typed this code and a list of faults appeared I checked the common one and that was it.
I have had serious issues with VW dealers in the past so keep them at arms length.
I have had the following major problems:
Went in for service and rear suspension bush replacement, driving the car home the back axle came loose and made me nearly crash. Someone had failed to tighten the main axle bolts
I took it in for poor brake servo assistance, they pulled at a few pipes and sent me on my way saying everything is ok, driving the car home the vacuum pipe came off and I had to put all my weight on the peddle to stop.
When I got cruise control fitted they butchered the wiring loom and did not reseal the fuse box. Water was dripping through the fuse box and I had 1" of water in the floor. The whole interior had to be removed and dried for 5 days.
So that's twice that a VW dealer could have been the cause of a serious accident or even deaths. I'll stick to my £30 computer and me or a garage I trust doing the work.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -

Co.Durham must have some shocking technicians  obviously each dealer is different and I can only speak for my guys, but essentially if the technicians are trained to the standards that they should be, and have the competance of the technicians Ive had dealings with here then all should go well...you have been mightily unfortunate though, but bet you got a decent re-imbursment on the original bill and an apology or five?!
We have a policy that if we mess up (and no-one's perfect
) that we reduce the bill significantly and give the customer a bottle of Moet gratis. :A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Just to note that both dealers I had problems with are not in County Durham, these were from elsewhere before I moved here.
For the suspension fault, the service manager did not believe me so I took him out for a test drive and he begged me not to go over any more bumps as the car was all over the road.
The service manager said that the did not touch the brake servo pipes (just 10 minutes before). As you can imagine I was slightly mad and kicked off in the show room.
From that dealer I was known by name and the branch manager used to usher me away from the customers. I was offered a full free service next time but would you trust someone like that again?
For the cruise control problems I got a 2 year warrenty on all my electronics, thankfully this has not been a problems since.
My next car is going to be a VW pheaton but it will nevr go to the dealer.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
It seems to me you've had some misfortune with dealers, but we've all had problems with being mispriced/over billed/not got the BOGOF offer at a supermarket...would you recommend everyone in the country only use corner shops?! A slightly strange comparison, granted, but can you see what I mean? You seem to have compensated hansomly for the errors, is that not enough? Don't you think that you'd get an even better service being that you're a known customer? We have a system in our dealership whereby we put customers Job Cards who need a bit extra TLC (due to reoccuring issue/previous problem, or special needs customer) in a pink envelope and that way the tech's working on it know to take extra care with that customer. Im sure you'd be a pink-envelope kinda customerAndy_Hamilton wrote: »Just to note that both dealers I had problems with are not in County Durham, these were from elsewhere before I moved here.

A full service is worth £300 plus, it'd be silly to pass that up...

I would say that every car should have the pink card not only because you have had trouble. I must have been "pink carded" as I kicked off in the showroom (i'm normally very calm)
I would not recommend that all people go to "the corner shops" as I bet 90%+ of customers would be happy and never have problems.
The "corner shop" I go to for my larger jobs is now over 35 miles away and worth taking a day off for! I take my car there, it gets fixed and it works fine until it needs serviced next time. I've had mine serviced by this VW specialist 13 times along with extra stuff like wheel bearings, timing belts etc. The only time I have taken my car back to this place is when they left a socket on a strut top after tighting. Nothing serious.
You can call it silly for me passing up £300 service but here is my comparison; If You got punched in the face, would you go back for free punch in the face?Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
Each to their own

Don't get what you're saying with the comparison, but it's your choice!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. I know this is a old topic now but this is something that has really got me wound up.
I am a VW technician and working in a big VW dealership. Now you can all sit there and slag off the technicians that keep your cars on the road but why is it u bring your cars to us to be repaired and maintained to very high VW standards?.......because you dont know how to do it yourself.FACT
now i can come out with stories i've heard from customers about back street fred in a shed. And i have repaired many cars that have been further damaged by these so called "specialists" and as soon as we find out the car has been else where we turn round and tell the customer its your choice but look what happened.you can take the chance of paying less for the work being done using none genuine parts potentially causing more damage to the car all fitted by a 1 man band who see's a corsa one minute then a vectra the next then a seat ibiza then once hes got all those done he jumps in your 20K Golf GT with his oily overalls and grubby boots then goes about fitting parts hoping that they will sort the problem with out a true guided fault finding program that takes us step by step through tests and checks on components inside and outside of ECU's.or you could have a clean well presented highly trained tech who has a 15K VW specific Diagnostic Machine which is capable of much more than a snap on fault reader or a draper reader brought for £30 at his use.
At our workshop the customer return is 6.1% of jobs now that spread over a week where 12 technicians selling 8 hours of work a day isnt much and our customer satisfaction report is well up in the 90% so i feel uyou have just had a bad run with the dealerships you have chosen.
anyway back on the touran problem yes it is a common fault and if the ABS light comes on then the vehicle is still safe to drive but it is highly advised that it is taken straight to the nearest VW dealer who can quickly and properly fix that problem by replacing the pump.and these have to be bled properly using the VAG5051 diagnostics machine as it has to run a sequence to ensure all the air is out of the pump and braking system.
you can't afford to cut corners when it comes to brakes and i advise only VW dealers or "specialist" with the 5051 machine replace these pumps.
2nd hand pumps are not advised due to the reason for failure ie corrosion on the internals of the pump.no matter how much these are tested there is no way that these pumps are 100% safe.0
