Hi all
Logitech Harmony 655 Remote Control, RRP £100, can be bought from ebay circa £45-50, currently reduced to £29.97
To save yourself a trip, check the stock first by phoning the store (can be obtained from http://www.yell.com) and ask for product code 786023
There were 4 in Darlington Dixon when I phoned 10 minutes ago.

I understand they have been discontinued now, which is most likely the reason for the price drop.
Still, at £30 thats still alot of money for a remote control - and no way would I be paying the original RRP for it!
If you're getting one though, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it and whether the price is justified (I did have a browse online, but couldn't see any feature that made me think 'yes, thats why it's that much'0 -
This is a good price for a high end unit. It is set up via a a USB connection to a PC / MAC so it is simpler to set up.
There is a review here: "Logitech Harmony Remote 655 Review"
And a shorter review here at HomeCinemaChoice
One question "The unit seems to use a link via the internet for programming so when Logitec stop the providing infomation and support and close the web site the units will not be able to be programmed?"
Having said that Logitec make some great kit and are likly to support it for a good few years IMHO. Also it seem to be a quality unit, and given the life of consumer products these days £29 for such a remote seems fair even if you only use it for 2 or 3 years IMO.
The range includes the higher end unit reviewed at Tom's
When you try and program the unit you MUST agree to the contract with Logitech, seems ok when I had a quick scan include email support address. Hamorny were purchased by Logitech for around $200m -ish in late 2004, from memory.
This is the products home page (UK) note the "Warranty: 732 day repair/exchange warranty for factory assembly defects only"
As others have said would be good to here from owners of the unit to see how they feel about it?
Seth.

I used to own one of these remotes.
They are difficult to program although the after sales help and service is absolutely excellent. If you cant program it yourself you send them an email with the details of the kit you have and they update the remote via the usb cable. Quite spooky really !
One word of warning - after about ten tries by their Customer Service Dept I gave up with mine as it wouldnt operate my Panasonic 32PD50 TV. It would turn the TV on but wouldnt then select the correct channel for dvd or satellite.
Hope this helps0 -
I bought one of these a few days ago & they are an excellent piece of kit. I was going to buy the 885 until I saw the reductions; problem is that having bought this means that I want the 885 even more now

Thanks for the tip. I already own 2 of these remotes, and they are excellent. I will admit that the programming via the web could be a little more intuitive, but once you get the hang of it the end results are well worth the effort.typing00 wrote:Hi all

I have just purchased another 3 from Dixons in Winchester as a result of this tip. They will easily sell for £50 each on eBay.0 -

These have been on offer a while now, saw them orginally in avforums. Dixons site is out of stock, sounds like there getting rid of it, just like the Kameleon remote I wanted the other week but cant source one for £30.0

I wish i had spotted that, i would have bid £12.50 !!trickdick wrote:I only got £12 for mine when I sold it on Ebay !!  :mad:0 -
I got one of these on Friday, and am really pleased with it. It set up all my equipment easily, including an item which is a bot more specialised. I did had to relearn one of the commands for my old Phillips onDigital box, but that is the only thing that didn't work 'straight out of the box'. For £29.97 it's an absulote steal, and even if they were to stop the web support in 3,4,5 years time, I would feel I easily had my moneys worth.0

I have had mine for about a month and I agree that the configuration can take a while to get absolutely right. However, considering what you have to pay for a OFA device, this is an absolute bargain if you can find one at £29.99. I paid £49 form CCL and thought it was brilliant value so this is dirt cheap.
Trust me, buy one, bear with it and you won't regret it!0
