Three Debt Recover Agency Letter

I have just received a letter from a Debt Recovery Agency demanding payment of an outstanding bill due to Three, I have been with three for 5 years and I am currently still with three.

After lots of calls to directly to three I have found out the debt is from 2004 and where i went into a shop and took out a new contract and they claim I didn’t finish paying off my 1st contact with them. I absolute certain I paid off this debt, I haven’t changed my billing address in that last 5 years, so surely three would of contacted me about this debt or taken it out of my current contact.

after about 5 calls I final got through to a manager who was aggressive called me a liar and said “I refused to believe “ what the other customers services operators, she also then hung up when I asked to b transferred to there complains department – great customers services!

I was just wondering should I continue to contract Three about this problem or should I accept what the customer service represent said that they can’t do anything and contract the Debt Recovery Agency?

Many thanks

I originally posted this here with more links to a different company, but the advise still seems reasonably valid.

The thread (quoted below) seems to link to some particularly good advice on other MSE threads including template letters etc...

You can request a copy of the CCA at any time and asking for the CCA and statement of account at the same time means you only need to pay one £1 charge instead of two. This makes the request legally binding.

Just make sure not to sign the letter - not a good idea to let a DCA have your signature - even on a cheque.

I also liked the letter in this post on MSE, but I have no idea if it would be effective.

And this post looks like a particularly interesting read on the topic.

5 years no problems and the in the same month they sell a debt i didn't know about to debt collecting agency and they put there prices up

i.e direct debit from going up from 3 pounds to 4 pounds
Charging by the minute rather than the second ….
Charging a £1 for itemised bill
