Wireless 3Com Modem Router + PC Card for £55 delivered

i've got the 3 com bundle, bought for a similar price from amazon a few months back. seems great so far. no problems, other than having to change the settings so it doesn't disconnect from the internet everytime you turn off the computer. tis easy to do, it just took me a while to figure out it needed doing. if you know what i mean

I've been wanting to network my computer and laptop to our BT broadband connection for ages now, but I have been so confused with everything you can buy. I did see £com items on Ebuyer a while ago that looked cheap and simple. Could you recommend them?
I think I need a router with modem, laptop card and something to connect the computer(could I do that by a lead?)would this also need a card? Even if connected by a lead?
As you can see I am new to all this technical jargon!!!

all you'll need is the 3com router/modem and the usb dongle. you could get a laptop card, but if you've got lots of usb ports the dongle is good, as you can also use it on other computers (if you got rid of the laptop and got a desktop instead at a later date.
that's all you need. then plug in the router to the telephone cable (you'll need your broadband filter, presuming you have broadband already). the dongle needs software installation, and only works on the usb port that you had it plugged in when you've set up the software, or does on mine, but this isn't a problem.

oops misread post. ok so you need 2 cards/usb dongles, one for each computer. if you want it all wireless that is. otherwise you may find that your pc and laptop both have network ports, which you could wire together...but defeats half the point of wireless.
my recomendation is get two usb dongles and the router....
i think i may just have confused matters. sorry

Yes very possible for the P.C you will also need a wireless network card

Your arrangement is better than possible, it's ideal, as long as your fixed computer has a network adapter (socket at the back, looks like a square phone socket but a bit bigger). Most newer desktops have them built in.

Had the predecessor unit for 17 months (before it packed in on Monday). Worked a treat. Ran it 24x7 since I bought it. Laptop always picked it up fine, even got a signal down the garden. We have internal brick walls and was OK. Made the mistake of replacing with a netgear DG384G + netgear PCMCIA card this week for a change. Range on the 3com was much better, now I can't get reception in some of the rooms with the NETGEAR, plus I keep having to power cycle it.

Go for the 3com, you won't regret it.

A friend of mine who is fairly computer illiterate has just bought one of these, so I'm crossing my fingers that the set up is fairly straight forward - why do you need to keep it switched on all the time, does it switch off when one of the computers connected to it is switched off?
