Sorry, I meant to say that the USB sticks are known as flash drives, not the other way around. And while they are solid state drives, they are still known as flash drives.
infact B*llocks a USB FLASHDRIVE IS a solid state drive you idiot but using USB as the connection which reducers the speed
well go on crucial (US website) then and tell me why they call their USB sticks FLASH DRIVES??
They call them flash drives, not solid state drives, which was the point I was making.

Aanyway, lets get back on topic for the OP.

This looks like a good option, as it appears to be powered by the USB lead. But its out of stock. Smaller capacity external drives should be USB powered meaning you can use them anywhere, not just next to a mains socket.

    really appreciate all the advise.

I found this after my intensive research.

    What do u think?

Also, I bought a 32GB USB/Flash:mad: drive on ebay but it was one of those fake ones. Wouldnt reformat to NTFS and other problems. FWIW. But never mind. Will be getting a 20 quid refund.

Flash drives are expensive atm, so a small, portable external drive might just be the only option.

    Still looking.

    thx

BTW. The only negative point about the above item is that its NOT portable. I have heard people use standard 3.5" external drives as portable drives, but it is NOT recommended.

    Hmmmm..... strange thread.

Anyway, since size seems to matter, this claims to be the smallest in size.

Your choice of item is neither small, portable or available on the website.

    You're all wrong.

The best current solution is a 2.5" 320 GB, 7200 rpm, SATA drive mounted in a Firewire 800 enclosure.

Runs off a single lead, too.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Or, if you don't have a Firewire port, you can get an Icy Box enclosure that is powered from the USB port too.
