Our local beauty salon zaps thread veins for £30 (that is if they are thread veins). It doesnt hurt and they are gone in seconds - I had a few done. Ring around your local salons - you dont need laser - they use something called dia-thermi !!

I had a treatment at a beauty salon years ago for thread veins. It was electrolysis which may also be called dia thermi? It cauterises the vein so that the body has to find another route to channel blood. Mine looked like bruises before they were done.

I would have been late twenties at the time and never been overweight or have particularly fair skin. Just unlucky I suppose! It was very effective and they haven't came back (nearly 20 years on  ). Not painful, and I don't remember it being particularly uncomfortable.

Not wishing to put a dampner on this but if you do consider treatment please consider the effect upon your legs in later life. What may appear slightly unslightly now, may be nothing compared to leg ulcers developed in later life because of treatment when you're younger. I'm not an expert on this I'm sure there maybe others on MSE who are.

Will a false tan or some make ups help instead?
  • Hi, I am 57 years old. I started to get really ugly spider veins after having my third child. Fours months ago I bought a tin of healing salve and got a free manuka honey hand cream. I have been using both these products and the veins have reduced alot and so has the pain.
  • I've had these from around 17... I'm 21 now and they are really starting to show up now, very dark blue and lumpy. I have dark olive skin so don't think fairness has anything to do with it. My mother has them too, but only developed them during her third pregnancy (a lot older than me - age 42).

What I've noticed in the last couple of days though, is a pulsing/vibrating feeling in one of my feet. Does anyone else experience this? My diet hasn't changed so it is worrying me slightly...

Did the Medik cream work? I have loads of thread veins on my legs I'm desparate to get rid off, but I'm a bit sceptical about these creams. Does anyone know if they really work?

Thread veins smed veins! Tis a little cosmetic problem. I'm 40 and noticed my first in my early 20s, dead skinny girl, then. They don't hurt just look a little odd on pale legs. I'm classic anglo-saxon, dark hair blue eyes and pale skin.

I use fake tan, they aren't as noticeable as you think once you get a little colour. Also since taking vitamin D in effective amounts, I colour up without burning so can get more of a real tan, easier than I used to. I'd recommend that.

Seriously, go for a great fake tan, even those built into moisturisers (dove, nivea, etc) make a difference. Test the effect using a mirror at least 12 inches away. That's closer than most get, mostly.

If you prefer to stay paler, try mineral make up. Get great coverage that lasts.

I know it's important to look good for self esteme reasons. I'm not being flippant. But it really isn't the end of the world.

You don't have any control over what life throws at you.
You DO have control over how you react :)

That's likely not to do with thread veins. Do you accidently sit funny? Maybe you are trapping a nerve by accident? If in doubt, visit the doc.

I do use fake tan but still hate them! I also have a varicose vein that I want to get rid off too! I'm still going to be looking for a solution, I want better looking legs!!!

The vitamin D sounds a good idea though, I'm blonde and blue eyed but have quite dark skin for a blonde and tan quite easily, although I do tend to stick to faking it.

If they are lumpy then have them treated with injections that work on varicose veins too. They do have the tendency to reappear. Make up can cover them, Dermablend is the range developed for birth marks etc so they do waterproof make up.
It's just genetic, lifestyle might have nothing to do with it.
