Thread veins on legs

Options
I've just hit 48 and have discovered I'm getting thread veins near my knees and on one of my shins.
What sort of age do these normally appear at and why?
Is there anything I can do to reduce the likelihood of more appearing?

Oh dear, I am early 40's and always looking for little signs of aging, not noticed any thread veins yet. Do you have very fair skin? because this would make them more noticable.
  • Yes I have fair skin.

I do have to look quite closely I'm pleased to say,, but I know they're there  !

im only 27 and have had thread veins on my thighs for about 3 years!! im very unlucky!! its never bothered me too much, but as im getting married next year i started looking into ways to get it removed.

i spoke to my doctor, but he said its unlikely i would get it done on the NHS. I looked into private clinics - i think the price is a few hundred pounds  - cant afford that on top of the wedding costs lol!! i did buy some skin doctors stuff, but didnt think it worked at all - i doubt any of this type of product would work tbh.

if you only have a small area needing treated it might not be that expensive to have the laser treatment.

I have a tiny patch that I've had for a few years now, and I'm just 31 :( Think super white thigh and deep blue lightning-shaped vein!

I read you can be more prone to them if you cross your legs. My friend had some thread veins treated with a saline injection - have no idea how much it cost :/

Our local beauty salon zaps thread veins for £30 (that is if they are thread veins). It doesnt hurt and they are gone in seconds - I had a few done. Ring around your local salons - you dont need laser - they use something called dia-thermi !!

  • I sympathise, but I've had thread veins since my early 20's. I've never smoked or carried too much excess weight. They're supposedly due to genetics but I have more than both my parents put together and they're in their 60s! The doctor told me that I should put my legs up when at home and also exercise them as much as poss but NOT by jogging as it's too harsh on the veins. Cycling, swimming and walking are safer.
Would camouflage make-up be an option? I've not tried it yet, but you can get waterproof formulas for the beach and I've even heard you may get them on prescription if the veins are bad enough.

Looks like I've got away with it fairly lightly then.

I've always carried a "bit too much" weight and although I gave up some 9 years ago, I smoked for over 20 years.

Ho hum....Dia-thermy sounds like an option if their appearance gets too bad. Like I say, unless looking with a critical eye alot of people would hardly notice them, especially the little patch on my shin.

I'm only 23 and I've got a few patches on my (very pale!) legs, mostly around the backs of my knees, and they've been there for a few years! Count yourself lucky for not getting them until your late 40's! LOL!

I like the sound of that Dia-Thermi, may have to check it out. Thanks for that tip!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Mm, dia-thermi seems uncommon, at least in my area.
Only 5 google hits, not including the ones on this forum!
